Chapter 7: Leaving, Not Forgetting Love

After Gerard and I figured out a plan we gathered our information. We waited all day until it was dark. "Gerard" I whispered. I could tell he was looking at me, the shadow go darker. "Do you have everything?" He nodded. I took out my pocket knife and picked the lock.

I grabbed Gerard's hand. "We are going the wrong way! What are you doing?!" He said in a hushed tone. "I know! I have to do something first!" We ran to the boys juvenile ward. I knocked the secret knock. Knock three times with your nuckles then punch the door. The door opened, but the kid looked at Gerard. "He's with me." The man shook his head. "Ugh, fine. Gerard stay here, and stay quiet." Gerard sat on the cold floor waiting for me.

I walked in looking around the room. All was quiet and calm. I tip-toed through the quiet halls. I remembered Jake's cell number. 665. "663,663, 665! Yes!" I whispered. "Jake? You there? It's...Candice." A shadow moved from the back off the cell to the front. I grabed my hands. "Candice. Get me out of here please!" I nodded and picked the lock. I opened the door slowly and grabed his hand running back to Gerard.

Before we reached the door Jake stoped. "What is--" Jake kissed me and cut off my words. My eyes opened wide and kissed him back. "Wanted to do that the day I saw you." He smiled. I blushed giggling at him. We turned around and saw the door. Gerard was in the door way crying. "I love you Candice! But, you go and kiss this moron!" His voice began to fill with pain. I frowned and looked at my feet. To afraid to look at Gerard. Gerard's muscles stiffened as he stood up straight. "Let's go Candice." I looked at Gerard and his face was straight. No emotion, no nothing.

Gerard, Jake, and I ran through the halls. Not stoping, not looking back. We made it outside. All was quiet. We tried to avoid the guards in the towers, but that's when I fell. The search lights turned on and we ran. "STOP OR PREPARE TO BE SHOT AT!" A voice in a tower yelled. We ran faster and faster, but the guards began to shoot. Gerard and I dodged every bullet. "AH!! I'm hit!" Jake yelled. I turned around to see his stomach bleeding. I began to cry. "No Jake! No! Please you can't be hurt!" All went silent. There was no responce from Jake. Jake, had died.

"It's okay Candice. It's ok." I shook my head. Gerard picked me up and ran to the fence. He put me on his back and climbed up and over. The search dogs were out. They where trying to kill us too! Gerard ran to the nearst town. "We are safe Candice! And, I'm sorry about Jake. I know he ment alot to you." I cried more looking at Gerard. He wiped away my tears and smiled. I kissed his lips and layed my head on his chest. He kissed the top of my head smiling. "Good night Candice. May Jake be watching over you." And those where the last words I heard before falling into a deep sleep.
