I wanted to see myself through someone else’s eyes,
To glimpse a reflection not twisted by lies.
Maybe then, I would hate myself less,
Find beauty in scars, not just the mess.
Would they see the weight I carry inside,
Or only the smile I wear to hide?
Would they trace the fractures, soft and slow,
Or only the light I fail to know?
If I were a stranger, would I hold myself tight,
Whisper kindness into the hollows of night?
Or would I turn away, just like before,
Leaving myself to ache once more?
I wanted to see myself through someone else’s gaze,
Maybe then, I would hate myself less,
And finally rest in my own embrace.
