Part 1: Concerns

The woman pulled and brushed my hair repeatedly, adding heat and sprays for what felt like hours but was only a few minutes. She finally let out a huff and then looked at me disappointingly. "All of that work and this is all I've gotten done?" she said sounding irritated with herself.

I glanced in the mirror realizing what was making her so upset. The strands of hair around my face were no longer completely curly, but they were no where near being straight. They pooled around my collar bone and shimmered from all of the treatments that she had tried on them. It irritated her further when she realized that I was actually happy with the way it looked.

"What have you done to your hair?" the woman asked me.

"It just grows like this." I told her while playing with a long brown curl that she hadn't touched yet. The woman raised an eyebrow at me and with a sigh, began working on the rest of my hair.

Usari entered the room as the woman was finishing up. "Well you look nice. May I ask what the occasion is?"

I stared at Usari with confusion until he began to look extremely uncomfortable and I realized that he wasn't joking. "We are having that dinner party thing, I forgot what it's called. We were just talking about it yesterday!"

It was almost as if a light bulb had lit up above Usari's head.  He turned on his heals and bolted back to his own room. The woman waited until we could hear him close his door to begin laughing. I joined in too even though I didn't find it all that funny. "Poor boy. He has had to deal with a lot of shit, pardon my language, lately from all over."

"Shit?" I questioned. "Like what? I haven't heard anything."

"Really? I guess they keep you sheltered." she said while shaking her head. "You did not hear it from me, but some people think you two should not be together. In my personal opinion, I think you should do whatever the hell you want to."

"I didn't know people have been talking about it."

"Well, rumors had been flying around about you two, and since no one had disproved them everyone has assumed they are not just rumors. I am sure things will die down once the wedding is announced publicly."

I nodded slightly in agreement. I really didn't know that those rumors had gotten out. Usari hadn't mentioned it once. And while the woman was right and announcing things publicly usually keeps others from poking their noses into things or creating stories, there was still the possibility that the opposite could occur and many would disagree with our decision. The lady must have been able to read the worry on my face because she stopped what she was doing and said, "You are lucky to have someone who loves you so much."

We sat in silence for the remainder of the time. She finally finished my hair and fixed it the way she thought best before standing to leave. "Thank you for doing this, I would have never spent this much time on it myself." I said.

"Oh, it is just part of my job. I guess I should go check on-" As if he knew he was being talked about, Usari entered the door. He stood there with a long silver robe with black accessories draped around himself. "Can you not dress yourself, boy?" the woman asked. Usari shrugged a little and the woman huffed. She walked over and snatched the edge of the robe from Usari's hand and began tying it around his waist. Once he was dressed she brushed out his hair and added in the decorations he had brought with him.

"So this is a really dressy party?" I asked.

"It is not that dressy."

"You are really dressed up though!"

"You think so?" he turned to me and questioned.

"His idea of party and everyone else's are completely different." the woman imputed.
