Happiness is a luxury.
It's so expensive. No matter how many times a person prays, the days get longer and longer. So long you lose hope and wish you were never born. I always prayed for a miracle but nothing ever happened. I was still an outcast.
Now I'm part of a different pack, feeling happiness and surrounded by people for the first time. I like to think there was a reason for it. I hate how long it took but if I had to choose, I would wait as long as I had to just to end up with the Dark Moon Park.
"You know, it's only been a year but you can already beat Jesse in a fight. If that's not progress than I don't know what is," Jeremy looks proud.
"She gets it and I get it, let it go please." Jesse begs. I can't help but smile.
"But on the other hand, you did get beat up by a baby like twenty times." My face burns in embarrassment.
It was hard but I finally managed to stick up for myself and feel confident in the process. At first, we tried changing my style of dressing but I still felt the same. Then they tried to make me angry but I couldn't. And then the alpha suggested I learn different fighting styles. After a week of karate, I already felt like a new person.
"How do I look?" I come out the bathroom and scratch the back of my head. Their mouths drop open.
"Too much?"
"Girl, you look hot!" Megan squeals.
"I guess but I'm feeling uncomfortable. Do these shorts have to be this tight?" I frown as I try to move my legs. But as soon as I do, I feel a gush of air and close them just as quickly.
"I-I agree." Jeremy blocks my view from Victor. "Maybe you should try sweats and a shirt."
Megan pushes him away, "We could but with this outfit you'll be sure to score a boyfriend." Megan smirks, "Right Jeremy?" Jeremy turns red.
"I think so too. Remember Xavier? He hasn't stopped staring at you since you joined," Victor adds. I blush, how can he say that so loudly?
"Xavier?" Jeremy doesn't look happy, "I don't like him. He's a player."
Victor rubs his chin, "Not at all. He's only had one girlfriend." Jeremy rolls his eyes and looks at the ground with a glare.
I feel my face getting hot at the possibility that Jeremy might like me as more than a friend. Megan has assured me but Jeremy sometimes brushes me off so I've never been completely sure. Megan says there is a valuable reason but I don't think he likes me as much as I like him.
"Let's go. They are waiting for you."
We walk out to the gym, where there are werewolves of all ages waiting to get trained in Karate. Wait, is that a baby? I see like five grandmothers.
As I'm about to walk away, Megan pulls me back and pushes me toward the others. Right beside the baby. The baby glances at me and turns back to the front, dismissing me.
