After a while of being in each other's arms, Brandon and I pulled away. We eyed each other for a split second, then looked away. Our hands were in our lap, our lips were tight in a straight line. I picked at some lint that was stuck on the couch, then realizing I was still in underwear with no pants on, and I was with a male, a boy who I didn't know very well. I felt my face burn with embarrassment. I decided not to take it personally though, he was my roommate's brother. They both seemed like kind people, they wouldn't hurt me in any way. I wiped my face with the back of my hand, tears still stinging the corner of my eyes. I sniffed one last time, grabbing the Wii remote that was next to me. Brandon got the hint and grabbed his Wii remote as well.
I wiggled the object I was holding and started a new game, mumbling, "Thank you."
Brandon turned his head slightly. "What? For what?" He asked in confusion.
I didn't turn to eyeball him. I kept my eyes glued to the television in front of us, still waiting for the game to load so the race could begin. "For listening. I haven't even told your sister about any of this, and you two are so sweet and it's just marvelous how you can be such a good listener."
The blue eyed boy chuckled, crossing his arms, now looking at the screen, which was awfully slow. It was still loading.
"Well, when you have a sister that won't stop talking, it's easy to adapt."
I laughed along, just as the game began. The countdown on the screen did the usual three two one, as Brandon and I took off on the screen. We swiveled and turned, both of us eager to beat each other since neither of us were champions at this. Just as we were driving through the final lap, Brandon spoke up.
"You know I find it really odd how you grew up in the United Kingdom and you don't have an accent."
It took me a while to answer since I wasn't throughly paying attention.
"I never adjusted to the accents I guess," I snickered. "And I lived with people that had no English accent, so it wasn't like I was always around the English. There were times where an accent grew on me but soon enough it would go away. You get what I'm saying?"
Brandon nodded with a chuckle, just as we finished the lap we were on, Brandon coming in 4th place while I came in 7th again. I huffed and sat back down on the couch, staring at him as he exited out of the game, going back to the Wii menu. He went over to the console and removed the disc from it, setting it back in its case. Once he sat back down, he sighed. He was sitting awfully close to me, his leg brushing against my own as he bounced it up and down.
"What do you want to do?" He asked. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I'm fucking hungry," he said before lifting himself off of the couch. He trudged over to the kitchen area and propped his elbows on the counter, resting his chin on his hands. He then trailed off to the cabinets and started searching, opening them and a moment later slamming them shut. Brandon had been looking for only a few minutes when he finally admitted defeat and groaned, walking over to where I was on the couch. He plopped himself down, while I laughed softly at his failure of finding something to snack on.
He turned to me and smiled. "Do you want to go out to eat?"
I nodded eagerly, and darted to the door, slipping on a poor pair of sandals, opening the entrance and rushing out. I felt a hand yank at my wrist, bringing me back into the apartment.
"You don't have pants on, you doofus," Brandon said, his hand still wrapped around my wrist, guiding me into Adalyn's room. He pulled out a pair of light washed boyfriend jeans from her nightstand and handed them to me, telling me he would be just outside the door waiting. I had no idea where this sudden burst of energy had come from, but once Brandon was about to close the door, I opened it swiftly. The jeans were already on my body and he wasn't even out the door yet.
