Carter's POV (she's 4 years old at this time)
I wake up to Charlotte shaking me by my shoulders. I'm crying and screaming. She embrases me into a hug as I sob into her shoulder.
"Ssshhhh, its ok, its OK. It was only a night mare." She hugs me rubbing my back while rocking us back and fourth.
"I-i-it w-was h-HORRIBLE!" I sob in between breaths.
"Shh shh. Its ok. Its over now, don't worry." My sobs turn into whimpers and then into sniffles. I let go from the hug and wipe my tears as Charlotte grabs me a tissue. I blow my nose and smile at her. She smiles back and gives me tight hug.
The door flies open.
"Carter! You little brat! Why can't you shut up and let us sleep!?! You do this every night! It is unexceptable!" Mrs. Bareth yells at me.
"I-its n-n- not my f-f-fault! I c-c-cant control it!" I scream. She stomps over to me and slaps me hard across my face.
"Never.. ever... raise your voice at me young lady" she says sternly. I keep my eyes on the floor wide open. I place my hand on my cheek as the touch burns it even more. "Did you hear me?" she says. I try to answer but I'm too shocked to say anything. She grabs me by my hair. I scream in pain. "I said.. DID YOU HEA-"
"Hey! Let her go!" Charlotte cuts her off by tugging on her arm. Mrs. Bareth grabs Charlotte with her free arm and throws her down onto the wood floor.
"Thats it! Charlotte say good bye to your brat of a sister! 'Cause you're never going to see her again!"
Before either Charlotte and I can say anything, Mrs. Bareth pulls me out of the room and slams the door. She drags me up the stairs as I fumble, trying to get my weak legs to stand. She has a strong hold on my wrist that will cause bruises to form.
We reach the top of the stairs and she unlocks a door. This door leads to a a big area in the attack. I've never been in it, I'm just too afraid to go up the dark hall way of stairs.
Mrs. Bareth takes a step in and throws me inside straight in the middle. I hit the ground with an 'oommff' as she locks the door and i hear her stomps down the stairs fade away.
The dark room is full of dust. I look to my right and see boards nailed into the wall where a giant window should be. The only light in the room is from the little peaks of holes through the boards.
I slowly make my way towards the window. Once i reach it I pull the old boards off with no struggle. Out side I see the little town I live in 20 stories below, and a giant full moon right in front of my face with mountains and trees trying to reach the bottom of it.
I sit on the built in bench in front of the window and stare at the Man On The Moon. I smile at him knowing that he will be my best friend.
I squint and see a tiny shadow flying around him. It has yellow glowing eyes. It comes close to me and places its hand on the window. I place mine there too and its as if we are touching.
I place my other hand on the window as it does the same. I place my forehead on it as well. It copies my action. I smile and it smiles back at me. It then hears something out side, looks around and flies away.
In the distance it stops and waves at me. I wave back in hope to see it again. It then flies away into the night sky. I drift off. Falling asleep. Then... Darkness.
