I was in Rufus' cabin, sitting at a table with a bottle of whiskey and a laptop, looking at websites related to Dick Roman. Global Economic Report, RRE, searching engine page, Financial Market Watch, Richard Roman Enterprises stock soars.
Dean walked in. "Hey."
"Hi," I told him. "Listen, I got something. A body turned up in Canton, Ohio. Local PD's trying to bury the story and the body."
"Okay, um, so, uh, what's up with the body?" Dean asked.
"Well, when it went missing, it was a perfectly normal grad student named Charles Durbin," I answered. "When it turned up, the thing was mummified minus the wrapping. This is actually the second body found like this in the last couple weeks. So I got you a case."
"Yeah, we'll look into it," Dean told me. "I feel bad. I didn't get you anything. What are you gonna do?"
I sighed, hesitating. "I think I'm gonna make the calls."
"Calls, as in..." Dean trailed off.
"As in, letting the world of hunters what happened to my dad," I answered. I sighed, looking at the laptop. "Which is gonna be hell."
"No worse than the hell what you're putting yourself through right now," Dean told me. "'Cause reading Dick Roman crap over and over again is just self-punishment." I hesitated, closing the laptop, pressing my lips together, sitting back in my chair. "You know, all considering, you seem to be doing pretty good. Although, that may be because you're a good actress, but not a good liar. If that makes sense."
"Oh, it does," I told him. "There's a lot of actors that are terrible liars."
"Ness," Dean told me.
"I'm fine," I told him. "You know, just got to keep busy and--and..."
"Get revenge?" Dean finished.
"I'd call it retribution," I told him. Dean nodded barely in agreement. "I mean, this isn't just about my dad, Dean, no matter how much I want it to be. This is about stopping all of the leviathans out there. Without getting eaten ourselves."
"Sounds like quite the chore," Dean told me.
I nodded. "Yeah. But, uh, you and Sam have fun with the hunt. Like I said, I just gotta get through the calls."
Dean nodded. "Yeah, well, while we're out doing the job..." He pulled on his jacket, stepping closer to me. "Don't try to do anything too dangerous and out there."
I stood, grabbing Dad's flask.
I smirked barely, knowing he was just trying to make me feel better. "Don't tell me what to do."
Dean smirked, kissing me bye for now, backing away slowly, turning around, walking out.
I watched him go with a small smile, looking at my dad's flash sadly. I sighed, pulling out my phone, starting to go through the contacts to call and let them know what had happened to him.
~~~~~~
I was on the road after making all the calls, driving, calling Dean first, but he didn't answer, so I called Sam.
Sam answered. "Dean?"
"No. Why? Where's Dean?"
"The thing that's been mummifying people took him in a freaking ball of light and disappeared."
I was slightly exasperated, but most of all worried. "Why is it that every time one of us cleans up a mess, one of us ends up dirty?"
"I don't know."
