Uday sat down on the bench and pulled Vashma towards him.
"Be a little sensible Vashma," he said,"you are attending dance classes in the gurukul, I will be staying in a boys university. How on earth is it possible for us to leave together?"
Vashma took a deep breath and said,"oye, tujhe wo geet yaad hai jo hum bachpan mein khelte hue gaya karte the?"
"Kaun sa geet?" Uday asked her with a puzzled look on his face.
Vashma said in a rhyming voice,"mumkin ko naamumkin kar dein, naamumkin ko mumkin. Ek saath jab mil jaye Uday Vashma har din."
"Oye," she said looking straight into his eyes," obstacles will never disappear, problems will never subside. But if we are in this together, we will get over everything. But if we are drawn apart, then no amount of peace shall ever be enough."
CHANDIGARH
AMRIT'S ROOMAmrit was sitting quietly by the window. Its was a full moon night and the moon was glowing spreading its shimmer all across the starlit sky.
"Kitni hi prem kahaniyan judi hain is chaand se," she whispered," pata nahi, kya Randheer bhi chaand ko dekh rahe honge?"
She felt a wave of sadness wash over her. She felt a heaviness in her chest, a tear rolled down her cheek.
Just then, a tiny pebble struck against her window.
"Are, yeh kya," she said and looked down from the window.
"Randheer!" she said as she saw him standing out there in the cold. Barefoot, she grabbed her dupatta and ran out. She raced down the stairs and arrived at the locked gate. She could see him through the iron bars of the locked gate.
"Aap yahan kya kar rahe hain?" she whispered, careful enough not to wake up the sleeping security guard.
"Kyaa lagta hai tumhe, chandni raat mein midnight safari par nikla hoon! Main tumse milne aaya hoon Amrit."
"Hum kal class mein bhi toh baat kar sakte the," she said holding the iron bars of the gate.
"Tab tak bohot der ho jati Amrit," he said placing his hand over hers.
"Main Lahore tumhe hi khojne aaya tha," he whispered," lekin mujhe achanak lautna padh gaya. Phir kahin se pata chala kee tum chori karke apne vyah se bhaag gyi ho. Tab maine bauji ke kehne pe Sahiba se sagai.......Mujhe pata hai Amrit, galti meri hai."
"Jaane deejiye Randheer, jo rab chahta hai wahi hota hai. Isme main aur aap kyaa hi kar sakte hain."
Saying so, she turned around to leave but Randheer held on to her hand.
"Mujhe jaane deejiye Randheer," she said politely," koi aa jayega."
"Mujhse door bhagkar jaogi kahan?" he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Randheer, aap hath choriye mera," she scolded him.
Randheer looked up at the sky and said to the moon," Dekh rahe hain janaab, jinki mohabat mein saara sukh chain chor diyaa wo haath chorne ko keh rahi hain. Bohot hi zalim hai inka dil."
"Ab baatein mat banaiye," she said, trying to hide her blush," jaane deejiye mujhe."
"Kal milte hain Amrit," he said leaving her hand.
LAHORE
RAILWAY STATION"Chal," said Uday holding Vashma's hand.
"Oye," she said," kahan chalna hai?"
"Bhagake toh nahi le jaunga main tujhe," he said to her," yaa toh tere Abbu ke aashirvaad se yaa phir unki nazron ke saamne se haath pakadke leke jaunga!"
