The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, filling the room with a soft glow.Abhira was in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. She moved around quickly, setting the plates.
Armaan was still in the room, getting ready. He buttoned his shirt slowly, his mind heavy with thoughts.
As he turned to the closet, his eyes fell on Abhira's side. Something pulled him towards it. Without thinking much, he opened the drawer.
His fingers brushed against a small photo tucked carefully between her things. He picked it up.
It was a picture of Rohit and Abhira.
His heart clenched. He stared at the photo, noticing how deeply they were lost in each other's eyes. How happy she looked. How precious this memory was to her-so much that she had kept it safe all this time.
His vision blurred. A single tear slipped from his eye and fell onto the photo.
He quickly wiped his face and took a shaky breath. No matter how much he tried, the truth remained the same.
Armaan's fingers trembled as he placed the photo back. His eyes then fell on something else-a dried rose, carefully kept inside the drawer.
He picked it up and chuckled sadly. It must have been special to her, just like the photo.
Then, he saw a folded letter beside it. His heart pounded as he slowly opened it. The words written in her handwriting made his chest tighten.
"Mujhe nahi pata ki yeh jo mai mehsoos karti hoon, woh pyaar hai ya sirf ek sapna. Par jab bhi tum mere paas hote ho, duniya ruk jaati hai. Sab kuch perfect lagta hai. Tumhari baatein, tumhari hasi, sab kuch mujhe ek ajeeb si khushi deti hai."
"Tum jab door hote ho, toh lagta hai jaise kuch missing hai. Jaise saans lena bhi mushkil ho raha ho. Tumse milne ke baad, sab badal gaya hai. Main pehle jaise nahi rahi. Tumhari aadat lag gayi hai mujhe."
"Main kabhi soch bhi nahi sakti thi ki kisi ke bina jeena itna mushkil lagega. Par ab lagta hai jaise tum meri duniya ka sabse zaroori hissa ban gaye ho."
"Mujhe nahi pata ki main yeh letter kabhi tumhe dene ki himmat karungi bhi ya nahi... par yeh jo bhi hai, jo bhi mehsoos karti hoon... woh sirf tumhare liye hai."
Armaan's grip on the paper tightened. His throat felt dry, his eyes burned.
She had loved someone so deeply, so completely. And it was never him.
Armaan wanted to crush the letter in his hands, tear it into pieces, and throw it away.
But he couldn't.
His fingers shook as he held the paper, his heart aching in a way he couldn't describe. This letter was proof of her love-love that was never his.
He let out a heavy breath and closed his eyes.
No matter how much he tried to ignore it, the truth wouldn't change.
She had written these words for someone else. She had saved the photo, the dried rose, and this letter like they were her most precious memories.
And he... he was just a stranger in this part of her life.
His chest felt tight. He looked at the letter once more before carefully folding it back. His hands ran over the words, as if trying to feel what she once felt while writing them.
Then, with a heavy heart, he placed it back in the drawer-exactly where he found it.
Armaan quickly wiped his tears, took a deep breath, and composed himself. He couldn't let anyone see the storm raging inside him.
