•••Cara's POV•••
I smiled at Ky. "What?" I asked.
Ky seemed hesitant and first but then smiled. "Cara, I know you've been under so much pain and pressure recently, and I know I haven't always been there the whole time. And I really don't know that I've ever thanked you for everything you've done. I want to say thank you for being humble and loyal to me these past 8 months, always being on my side, and for giving me two precious gifts that nobody could ever replace. Nobody has ever done that to me but you. And even though I haven't seen the twins yet, I already feel a strong connection with them. A father's love...and your father has one for you too. In fact, he's got one so strong that he managed to let go. He's letting me do this." He said. I smiled at him the entire time he spoke. I sat up so I was face to face with him. His lips gently pressed against mine. He pulled off the ring on my left hand. He slid a ring with two orcas holding a ruby between their rostrums onto my ring finger. "Will you do me the biggest favor in the world and be my wife?" He asked.
I stared at the ring for a moment before looking up to him and grinning. I flung my arms around his neck and kissed him happily. "How?" I managed to ask.
Ky grinned and held my hands tightly. "I managed to save up for a ring. Katie and David gave us so much stuff for the twins so that we only need to get very few things. Your parents helped us get a house, plus Alejandro gave me a raise and a promotion. Cara, I never knew we would be able to get married so soon." He said.
I grinned and kissed him again. "I love you so much, Kyuquot." I said, stroking his spiked hair.
My new fiancé grinned and kissed my cheek. "I love you so much more, Caralaine." He said, holding me closer.
The doctor soon returned with the twins in the hospital cribs. Ky stood up and carried both of the twins over to the bed. He laid next to me again, handing me the baby boy.
I stared back and forth at each of the twins. Then I heard a sniff. Ky had tears beginning to slide down his face. I noticed that the baby girl he was holding had wrapped her tiny pre-mature hand around Ky's pinky finger.
I kissed his cheek. "You've been holding it in for a while now." I said as more tears slid down his face.
Ky looked to me and smiled. He nodded. "Yeah." He said.
Tears slid down my cheeks after seeing my fiancé cry. He was so tough and hard to break, but just because his daughter had shown an interest in him made him so weak.
•••Ky's POV•••
Within the first few weeks, I had finally gotten the hang of being a father. Cara had been extremely tired and overworked, so I would let her sleep in the afternoon for as long as she wanted. Besides, I loved spending time with the twins. Nothing was better than having your 2 month old twins pay attention to you.
Cara and I had planned out the wedding entirely by then. All there was left was to get a tux and a dress. The wedding was in three months. I had been more anxious than her about this. I loved her so much, but it was so painful having to wait for the wedding.
The twins were growing at a good rate. We had finally decided on two names - Alana Nichole "Nicky" Sanchez and Kyuquot Matthew Sanchez. They seemed to suit their names as well. Nicky had so far been a daddy's girl, much to my content, and Matthew was a mommy's boy. Cara loved to play with the twins whenever she could. She was so joyful when playing with them.
One afternoon, I had just come home from work. I called Cara's name out a few times since I didn't hear her or the twins. There was a note on the refrigerator in the kitchen. It read: "We're outside :)". I smiled slightly and changed out of my wetsuit and into my blue t-shirt and blue jeans.
As I walked outside, my eyes found Cara and the twins. They were all laying on a blanket in the grass. The twins were sitting up straight, since they were now 5 months old. Cara was sitting up and bent in as if telling them a story. Sure enough, she was.
I carefully knelt down behind Cara and slipped my arms around her. She gasped and turned around. My eyes met hers. She calmed down a bit.
"You scared me." She said, holding a hand on my shoulder as she remained in my embrace.
I smiled slightly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." I said before kissing her gently.
The twins both laid on their stomach. Nicky held her arms out to me, kicking her feet. I grinned and held her in my arms before tickling her stomach lightly.
"How is my little mermaid?" I asked as Nicky placed her hands on my face.
Nicky babbled some of her own words before giggling. I smiled and kissed her cheek. Matthew babbled at me. I grinned and held him in my other arm.
"How about you, Matt?" I asked as he pulled at my whale tale necklace and teethed on it.
He stared up at me with sparkling blue eyes, just like his mother. I looked to Cara and smiled. She was looking to the sky, watching the clouds. I put both of the twins on the blanket and pulled my fiancé into my arms.
"Whatchya thinkin about?" I asked.
Cara looked to me and kissed my lips gently. "Just thinking about you and the twins." She said.
I grinned and kissed her jawbone. "Only one more week..." I whispered into her ear.
Cara looked up to me. "I know...then for eternity." She said.
I held her hand tightly and kissed her neck. She giggled and stroked my hair. "In front of the twins?" She said.
I held her closer and stared into her eyes. "So what if they see?" I asked.
Cara rolled her eyes and laughed. I grinned and looked to the twins. Matthew was now falling asleep with his head on Nicky's stomach. Cara smiled.
"Let's go put them in their cribs." She said.
I smiled. "Okay." I said. I carried Matthew upstairs into his room before going back downstairs.
