Wonder Woman: Rise of the Titans

Chapter III

"I have good news and I have bad news," Nurse Prince said taking her otoscope out of Steve's ear. Colonel Trevor is completing his physical examination in Nurse Prince's office. As she puts her medical equipment back in its proper place, Steve puts on his boots.

"The good news is there is nothing physically wrong with you," she said. "The bad news is I can't do anything for your embarrassment after you leave this office."

"Okay," Steve said. "What are you talking about?"

"Lieutenant Candy had her physical this morning and she was telling everyone in hearing distance about your botched marriage proposal to Diana."

"What about it?" Steve said raising his voice. "She left. I didn't even get a chance to ask her?"

Steve quickly realizes something.

"Wait a minute...How does she know I wanted to marry Diana? I didn't tell anyone that. I didn't even tell my own parents."

"Yeah, everybody knows. We're not blind Colonel. You two spend more time with each other than some of these pilots spend with their own wives. I know. They told me."

"You know I keep a transceiver in my cockpit and next to my bed just in case she calls. She hasn't. I don't expect her to, but you never know."

"Well, she's a queen now. She's probably off doing queen things."

It is dark and quiet. Diana can neither see nor feel anything around her. She does not know where she is. Is she still in North Africa, Earth, or this plane of existence?

"Diana where are you?" Nubia asked. "I can't see a blasted thing."

"I'm here," Diana said.

"Where is here? Here could be anywhere."

"Follow the sound of my voice."

Nubia reaches out and touches something wet and scaly.

"What in Hera is this thing?" Nubia asked.

"What thing?"

"Put out your hand and touch it!" Nubia snapped.

"Touch what?" Diana asked reaching.

Diana touches something wet and scaly also. Suddenly, it moves and growls.

"What's that?" Diana said moving away.

She bumps into Nubia.

"Ahh...Watch where you're going," Nubia said.

"I can't! I could really use some light right now."

A ring of fire suddenly lights up around them. They find themselves on a dry path surrounded by bodies of water of varying sizes. The scaly thing they were touching is a giant lizard with an elongated neck that has its sights set on them. Diana draws her golden lasso as Nubia draws her sword.

"I think we should have given Taenarum another try," Nubia said.

The lizard roars and snaps at them. Diana and Nubia jump back.

"Stay behind me. I'll call you when I need you," Diana said.

Diana runs to the lizard and jumps. She glides up to the beast's head which tries to snap at her again. She flies over the lizard's head and spins around its neck, lassoing it. Diana pulls the lizard's head to her as she lands.

"Nubia!"

Nubia hesitates briefly to figure out what Diana wants. With the beast's neck stretched in front of her, Nubia runs and leaps tightly gripping her sword. She cuts off the lizard's head and lands kneeling as it drops to the ground. Diana recoils her lasso and looks around. The fire around them creates a path to more darkness behind the decapitated lizard.
