(Jessica's point of view)
I woke up to lots of shouting outside of my house. Opening my eyes very slowly, I looked out the window. Gray banners decorated the courtyard, as if to celebrate. But I knew better. This was no celebration. It was a slaughter party, in which almost everyone would have to face. I looked at my phone. 8:05! I'm late!! I mentally curse at my alarm clock that hadn't gone off for the fortieth time as I rushed around my small, square shaped room to get ready.
As soon as I was dressed and ready for the 'celebration', I rushed outside my room and flew downstairs, almost hitting the front door as I got outside.
As soon as I stepped outside, I noticed Christina, one of my friends, leaning up against a nearby spruce tree. "About time you came." She said, lifting her head up to look at me. "Now come on. Everyone is waiting for you." And with that, she ran to the town's square. "Wait, Christina!" I cried, trying to keep up.
As we headed near the square, it was obviously crowded. I tried scanning the crowd for my friends, but I couldn't find them. Then Christina suddenly stopped. "I thought you said everyone was waiting on me." I said to Christina. "I just thought maybe you'd like to say goodbye to Roree. Since, you know, you probably won't see her ever again." And Christina was right. After the Keeper of Knowledge figured out Roree's power, Roree would be teleported away, either to the light or dark side. She would then undergo harsh training to become a soldier. She'll probably be on the dark side, knowing her. Barley a good bone in her body. But, do I really want her to leave? No.
"Hurry up now, or else you won't have chance to say goodbye!" Christina shouted, a few paces ahead. I ran after her. Unfortunately, I run blind. I barley had any warning (Christina warned me a bit too late) before I crashed into somebody. "Ow, Watch it!" I heard them yell. "Sorry Didn't see you there!" I said back standing up, head pounding. "Hey, why are you closing your eyes? Don't you know running blindly through a crowd is dangerous? You could get killed." He asked. I'm sure it was a he. "I have to, or else I'll become very dizzy. I also can't open my eyes while running, because the same thing would happen. And yes, I know it's dangerous to run, but I can't help it. It's either run blind or run with the world spinning." I managed to reply through the throbbing of my head. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped, like usual, and I could open my eyes. "D-David?! Oh my gosh, I'm really sorry!" Should of known from his voice. Oh well. Not like it matters anymore.
"It's alright, but could I ask why you are running in the first place?" He asked.
"Well you see-" I started
"Jessica, are you going to keep flirting or can we get a move on?!" Christina shouted.
"Christina! I-I wasn't f-flirting!" I stuttered out while a tint of red flushed threw my cheeks.
"Well, bye David!" I called, hopefully not embarrassing myself too much as I followed Christina through the crowd, carefully this time, without running. I barely heard him say goodbye before the crowd whisked the words away.
"There she is!" Christina called, motioning towards the massive vortex of people. "We have to go through THAT?" I nervously questioned. "What other way is there?" She mumbled, finding a path through the crowd. I followed her, and, being me, I tripped and stumbled. Coming face to face with Roree. "Jessica!" She cried, pulling me into a death hug. "G-good to see y-you to." I chocked out. "You're late." She said as soon as she stopped hugging. "I know Roree. If my alarm had gone off at the right time I would've been on time." I said, again mentally cursing. "Oh it doesn't matter anymore. You guys should go to your seats. The deciding begins soon." Roree said, pointing at two empty chairs in the front row. I sat down and looked around at the grayish village. Everything is gray today, as if the sky knows what is about to take place. Strange though, when I first looked out the window this morning, it was blue skies and sunshine. I guess even the weather knows what's up.
"Why are you so late Jessica?" Said the voice next to me. Turning my head, I see Sidney, looking at me with confusion. "Alarm clock." I mumbled in response, looking away from her. She seemed to be concerned and confused, but at least she left me alone.
"Attention everyone! The ceremony begins......Now!" And with that, a woman with gray robes, brown hair, and dark mahogany eyes appeared on the stage. "I am the Keeper of Magic." She said with a look of authority. "Today, we celebrate the awakening of a young girl, Roree." Roree then stepped onto the stage. "Sit down next to me, dear. This should only be but a minute." Roree sat down, cautiously, next to the Keeper. The Keeper took her hand, and was 'reading' it. A few seconds after, she let go, closing her eyes. "You're a difficult one. Your power could send you either way. However, in times like this, your personality will show the way." She opened her eyes, looking at Roree. "I sense darkness within you. You will be going to the darkness!" The Keeper cried out, and suddenly, a vortex the color of black and white fell over Roree, picked her up, and sent her east, to where I assume the palace of Black lies. Afterwards, the Keeper too, disappeared in a similar way, leaving us with another gone.
"Is everyone okay?" Asked Kalen, another friend of mine. "I-I think s-so." Cried Sidney, in between her sobs. No one was ever the same after losing a friend to this forsaken slaughter house. I managed to mumble something along the lines of 'I want to be left alone' before I walked away, back towards my house. That day, all I did was listen to music, thinking of how I'd see all my friends go through that. For I am, after all, the youngest.(???'s Point of view)
"What?! That Keeper will pay for her crime!" I screamed some more, cursing the Keeper's name. "B-but sir, it can't be helped. S-she decided fairly." My guard managed to say. "Fairly?! No, that is not fairly, she keeps avoiding sending some to the light side! I guess we'll have to go pay that village a visit, and take a few into our armada." I said, standing up. My guards looked at me like I was insane. But I would like to win this war, not lose due to the Keeper's choice. I'll deal with her later, who knows where she is now? She's everywhere at once, it seems.
