When I wake up the next morning, I grab the heat ray I stuffed in my pillow. I'm going to unfreeze some people today! Oh, wait, that sounds weird. Well, anyway, I get out of bed and run to the room where I left them.

Maia and Andrius. I had decided last night that I would push them into their room so I didn't have to look at their chilling stares. I open the door to the second closet. It was still a little chilly, even though I used a small blast from the heat ray to warm it up a little last night. I slowly open the second door into the little living area.

I peer in. I was kind of relieved to find the ice blocks still intact. I couldn't even think of what I would've seen if the ice blocks had melted. But it was still strange to see the ice intact. I look down at the heat ray in my hand. I know how to use it, I'm just afraid that it'll burn the people inside. I decide that that won't happen. But just in case I do burn them, I don't want to see. I close my eyes, and take a deep breath. "One, two, three!" I say.

I pull the trigger, aiming it right in front of me, at Maia. There was a blast of warmth and a whoosh noise. Not wanting to see what happened to Maia, I turn, opening my eyes a little, and aim the heat ray at Andrius. Not hesitating this time, I close my eyes and pull the trigger. There was another blast of warmth and a whoosh. I drop the heat ray next to me on the plush carpeting and count to ten. Then, I open my eyes.

Maia and Andrius are dripping wet and embracing each other, not aware that I was there. A minute or so later, they notice me staring at them. Maia was smiling up at Andrius when they came out of their hug. He just seemed really embarrassed. "Thank you so much for unfreezing us!" Maia says gratefully. I was still frozen where I was when I opened my eyes.

It feels like it's been so long since I've heard someone talk. "You okay?" Maia asks. "I'll fix you a snack if you want. You're probably starving!" I nod mutely. In truth I wasn't hungry, but the offer was so nice I couldn't turn it down.

Then, for some reason, I feel the need to hug them. I start crying because I wanted my old life back. But I knew that wasn't possible. I cry harder and start to run towards Maia and Andrius. "I-I'm s-s-so glad I-I'm n-not a-a-a-alone!" I manage to choke out between sobs. I didn't know why I was acting this way. I was seventeen! Why was I crying like a baby?

Maia mutters reassurances while Andrius pats my back. When I can calm down enough to speak, I say, "I'm sorry. I don't usually cry over everything." "That's okay." Maia says. "I understand. I never cry unless I feel forgotten about." She continues. "Now, let's go get you something to eat!"
