A week after I started my job at Seegaard I was already dreading it, at least this week. For this entire work week Javier Chavez, Mayoral Candidate for Dallas, was coming in for an interview. He was the half brother of my boss Mr Alvarez. A recap incase you forgot what had happened in my cliche life.

Marius Alvarez was thirty two and similar to his brother, eerily physically. Javier was taller and fuller but from my experience Marius was kinder and valued people, not used them. Each of them had different personalities, completely different. Javier was subtle, opinionated, witty, but quiet. On the other hand his brother was funny, open minded, and a bookworm. He wasn't as good with people, good or bad, as he political brother was. By time Javier stepped into the long hallway led by a receptionist, I had done my research and equipped myself with extensive questions.

When it was the morning of his arrival I busied myself with the preparations of the catered lunch, the organization of the conference room, and putting together the official interview.

"Karenina Mr Chavez is here." A petite blonde blinked behind expensive glasses.

"Send him to Mr Alvarez." I fixed the files that had been loaded onto my desk for alphabetical organization, which I embraced.

"He stepped out on a call. He said for you to begin without him." How great.   She can't honestly think I can handle him ? I didn't contact him after breakfast four years ago for a reason.

"Okay I'll follow you to him." She nodded and forward walked to him. My pulse was stable as I pushed past doors that led to me laying eyes on him. He had his hands on his hips which were clothed by a deep blue suit and a white dress shirt. His tie was black and he had a white watching hankie in his breast pocket. Everything about him was even more crisp and perfect. Instead of bruises covering his cheeks a light beard darkened his jaw line. He had grown into a handsome man, surprisingly.

"Mr Chavez this is Miss Espanova, Miss Espanova this is Mr Chavez." The woman left us standing professionally in front of each other. We didn't shake hands but I immediately led him back to the conference room.

"Miss Espanova ?"

"Yes sir." Javier nodded and walked next to me. I went ten shades pale and red at the same time being this close to him.

"Mr Alvarez is on a business call so he asked me to begin without him." I held the door open for him and he took a seat with his back to the view of the city. It was quite the sight.

"Karenina, Karenina Espanova. University of Houston. I met you at a frat party when you hit on me." I sent a one second laugh at his sentence. Completely wrong.

"We met when you ran into me and spilled your drink over yourself at a night club. You hounded me for two weeks after." He smiled a flashy set of teeth in a smile. A politician with a perfect complexion.

"So you do remember me." He was the same amused, self confident guy. Him and all the people that had met him knew this. I knew this.

"What fueled your career choice and why ?" I abruptly asked changing the subject. He leaned back as far as the chair would allow him and perhaps processed the question.

"From a young age we are exposed to the evils of the world and are expected to adapt and accept these. Our innocence is taken from us by prying hands and I want to change this. All I've ever wanted to do is make a difference." Javier's answer was well thought out and perfect. Who ever coached him knew the things people wanted and needed to hear. He was the entire convincing package.

"You're ten years younger than your opponent Hank Henry. Does that affect your plans for the city and the race to decide who orders those said plans ?"

"I think it gives me an advantage. While Mr Henry advocates the past, I'm for broadening the path to the future. I hope to bring the younger crowd together to understand and appreciate this city. By fundraising partnerships with musical groups popular with their demographic and educating them on important history of the city I can become a successful mayor, if elected."

"Do you have any innovations or improvements planned for our criminal system ?"

"I have mapped out plans on stepping up patrols on east side and making a special division dedicated on educating youths on drug awareness and safety. My team and I are also developing ideas on a teen out reach program to bring kids in touch with criminal law and to keep them off the streets. We also want to fundraise to branch our division outward to assist other towns and to lower crime rates with state of the art technologies and approve raises for our city's hardworking employees." Thankfully Marius left a recorder for the questions so I did not need to write everything down word for word. I hoped my voice was not too freakish then I had heard it or predicted it to be.

"How do you wish the public to see you ?"

"How I wish to see them to and how they actually see me are two things that will never parallel. I want to be represented by an idea, an idea of improvement. Improvement to our city and our representation of our city. I will always support change and bringing in new ideas. We need change." I flipped through Marius's questions and mine. If I wanted to put myself out there I had to go dark.

"What would you say is a key personality trait of a leader that you possess and how do you use this as an asset ?" Javier pushed forward in his seat as a change in position. He cleared his throat and smiled.

"What do you think is my greatest personality trait that a leader possess ? How do I use it to my advantage ?" He asked back. I frowned annoyed. Charming. How can I put this easily ?

"You're manipulative. It comes easy to you to use people to your own benefit. In your eyes people are meant to be used for a purpose, your purpose and you can toss them away whenever you felt necessity compels you to. As a leader this would be beneficial in promoting and passing bills and laws. Also, to get people on your side without questioning. It's hidden under your charm, but some of us can see it." Politicians are lying pigs. They twist the truth and interpret laws. Javier is just the same and his family has already made a name for themselves. Marius already changed his surname.

"Thank you." He spoke with a stern expression. "Manipulation is the first thing they teach us in politics. I'm glad I display it. It was nice to see you again Karenina. Excuse me." He nodded and stood up, leaving the conference room. I watched him turn down the halls toward the exit.
