This chapter is short. And probably really sucky. I'm a horrible person, I know.

I wanted to get something updated. This chapter had been sitting for a month now, just waiting to be finished. I hate to say it but I may have jumped the gun with this story.

I've had no kind of inspiration lately and this story hasn't been an easy one for me. Truth be told, this one is going to go very very slowly. At least until I figure out where exactly to go with it. I totally have a list of excuses as to why I haven't updated anything, but I figured it was better to just be completely honest with you guys.

And we all know what I do and do not own by this point, so screw you disclaimers and your copyright bullshit!

Kat's POV

"Please be careful." Christine hugged me one last time before I got into the carriage.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine. You're the one who needs to be careful." I smiled and glanced at her stomach.

She placed a hand over her abdomen and gave me a wary smile. I looked behind her to where Ezra was squirming in Madame Giry's arms.

Once we decided to go Italy, Raoul arranged for Christine to stay with Meg and her mother. My sister wasn't exactly happy to left behind but she understood that there was no way she could travel. Raoul on the other hand refused to be left behind, even though we all practically begged him to stay with Christine.

"Mommy!" I snapped my head up to see Ezra running towards me with Meg chasing after him. His little body slammed into mine and his arms wrapped around my legs. "Don't go."

I crouched down and looked into his big round eyes. "I will be back before you know it."

"Cross your heart." He said placing his hand over my chest.

"And hope to die." I smiled and hugged him. "I love you. Now be good for aunt Christine and Meg."

With that I jumped into the carriage and left my world behind.

"We'll travel the whole way by carriage stopping a few times at inns along the way." Damien mumbled as he looked over a map.

"How long will it be before we're there?" Erik asked and glanced over Damien's shoulder at the map.

Damien traced the way along the paper with his finger. "Well, we'll travel through today and into the night, stopping at an inn somewhere near Auxerre. Then in the morning we'll make our way to Lyon and stay there for the night. We should reach the boarder of Italy, and make our way straight through to Verona."

"So a little less than a week?" Raoul asked.

Damien folded up the map and nodded. The ride turned silent after that. Raoul and I each pulled out a book and began reading while Damien and Erik chatted quietly.

After and few hours my eyes grew sore so I took to gazing out of the window. The sun was setting, painting the sky a bright yellow. The clouds hung low in the distance, bright and fluffy like giant golden marshmallows. Night fell and before I knew it we were stopped at an inn that was isolated from everything else. Damien and I went inside to pay for our rooms, trying to keep a low profile because Erik was still a wanted man.

Erik and I got our own room, while Damien and Raoul got one with two beds to share.

"If you wake up to a dead vitcomte, don't point any fingers at me." Damien muttered as he dumped my bag in my room.

"I won't, but do keep in mind the vitcomtess might ask the same of me when she hears of her husbands death." I gave him a devilish grin.

He smirked. "Dido."

"If you two are finished plotting our relatives deaths, I would like to get some rest." Erik said as he brushed past us and into our room.

Damien crossed his arms. "We weren't plotting, we were discussing."

"Because those are so different from each other." I rolled my eyes and followed Erik into our room. "Goodnight Damien."

Erik closed the door behind me then began digging through his bag for something to sleep in. I walked over to the window and gazed out at the grass covered hills that surrounded us. There was a small stable directly below our room. I could make out the form of a man, most likely the stable boy, leading our horses into the small building.

I continued to watch the man as he cared for the animals and quietly locked the stables for the night. Nothing about his actions was strange until he looked up at me. A shadow rested on his face, making it next to impossible to tell who he was. He cocked his head to the side and watched me. Our eyes locked for a moment and wave nostalgia hit me.

"Kat? Did you hear anything I said." Erik walked up to my side, a frown present on his face.

"Do you see him?" I asked, my face draining of color.

Erik gave me a concerned look. "Who?"

I pointed in the direction I had seen the man only to find he was no longer there.

"Are you alright?" Erik turned me away from the window to look at him.

I blinked rapidly, trying to get my head straight. "There was a man outside. He was watching me. He looked right at me..."

My voice trailed off as I realized how crazy I must sound. Erik closed the dark curtains that hung above the glass before leading to the bed.

"It's been a long day dear, I'm sure your just tired." He said in a soothing tone.

My eyes wandered towards the window. "I know what I saw. He looked right into my eyes."

"Well you're safe here." Erik tried his best to hide his disbelief. "I suggest you get some rest, we've got another long day ahead of us."

I simply nodded, giving up. There was no point arguing, but I wasn't going to convince myself that I hadn't seen anything.

That night those eyes haunted my dreams.

Those piercing blue eyes that I swear I once knew.

P.S. I was too lazy to fix grammatical errors...
