Eren Jaeger is a Titan. I just got word from Keith—he transformed in the middle of Trost, right in front of everyone. The Garrison is in chaos, civilians are panicking, and some are already calling for his execution. Others are too shocked to react. I don't know what this means for us—for him—but one thing is certain: everything has changed.
Adding to the chaos is the fact that Eren's sister, Greta, is missing. No one has seen her since the attack began. With Titans swarming the city, the worst possibilities haunt me. Is she trapped somewhere? Injured—or worse? Some soldiers are searching, but with all eyes on Eren, I doubt anyone is truly focused on finding her. If she's alone out there, she doesn't stand a chance.
"We need to find Greta," Erwin says firmly in the briefing room. "If she's alive, we cannot afford to leave her behind."
"Why should we?" Nile Dawk scoffs. "Her brother's a monster—what if she is too?"
Erwin's gaze hardens. "Speculation won't help us, Commander Dawk. Greta Jaeger is a trained soldier. Until proven otherwise, she is one of ours."
"She's also just a kid," Levi mutters, arms crossed. "And if she's alive in Trost right now, she won't be for long if we sit here arguing."
The room falls into tense silence.
Erwin breaks it. "We move out in squads. Our priority is securing the gate, but if anyone finds Greta, you report immediately. Understood?"
A chorus of agreement follows, though unease lingers.
Cara's eyes glisten with tears. "Greta is kindhearted—she wouldn't hurt a fly. She's probably scared shitless like the rest of us." She shoots a glare at Nile.
"And you'd leave her to die?" Cara snaps, her voice trembling. "She fought alongside us. She's one of us. And you'd turn your back on her because of who her brother is?"
Nile exhales sharply, his expression unreadable. "I'm saying we don't know what she is. If Eren can turn into a Titan, what's stopping her?"
Cara's fists clench, but Erwin raises a hand. "Enough. We're wasting time. Greta is part of this mission. If she's alive, we bring her back. That's an order."
No one dares argue further. Cara wipes her eyes, squaring her shoulders. "I'll find her," she whispers. "No matter what."
"Captain Cara," Erwin says kindly, "I admire your resolve. But you and Captain Levi will accompany me to Eren's hearing."
I step forward. "Commander, if I may—I'd like to join the squad searching for her."
Erwin's expression softens. "Thank you, Amelia." But his tone shifts. "Your presence is also required at the hearing. We need every capable officer to address Eren's situation. The search for Greta must wait."
My heart sinks, though I nod. "Understood. But when this is over, I'll be ready. I won't let her slip away."
Levi shoots me a sidelong glance, his stoicism cracking just enough to reveal a flicker of understanding. "You won't be the only one looking. We all will."
Erwin rests a hand on my shoulder. "I know, Amelia. And when the time comes, you'll be there. For now, we deal with Eren."
I nod again, forcing my worry for Greta to the back of my mind. But as the meeting continues, my thoughts keep circling back to her—alone in the chaos, just like the rest of us.
And then there's Eren. I can't imagine what he's feeling. He's always been so sure of himself, so determined. Now he's a monster trapped in his own body. His world has flipped upside down. One moment, he was fighting to protect his friends; the next, he became a weapon that could destroy everything he's ever known.
