You almost die:

The hot air whips around my face as I run frantically away from the cranks. Tears are pouring down, mixing with the salty sweat and my breath hitches. My legs begin to burn. My trainers rub my feet. A building is coming up. I duck behind it. Pressing up against the wall. Calming my breath. Squeezing my eyes shut. Please don't see me. Please don't see me. A minute passes. I let out a shaky breath. Looking around, all I can see is plains and plains of sand with a hot wind blowing. No noise. I reach out to the other side of the building, eyes darting back and forth and see... nothing. I smile in relief and turn around.

 A crank.

His hand darts out and grabs my hair. I yelp and attempt to pull away. He's mumbling something about pretty hairs and young girls blood. My breathing is getting out of control and I scream, a loud, piercing scream. Please someone hear and help me. The crank pulls out a shard of glass and holds it menacingly above his head and yells and brings it down and cuts my arm and I scream and there's blood and he's grinning and I see dots. My head is swimming and I think.... this is it. I see the crank pull the shard back again and I panic and I bring my hand out to protect me and he knocks it away and I think it's broken and I can't think. I stand up and try to run away, kicking and flailing my hands around. He grabs my arms and lifts me off the ground before throwing me against the wall. My scream dies in my throat. My eyes begin to close. I hear a grunt and a yell of pain.

"y/n?" Arms pull me up and there are hands in my hair and I feel comforted and I forget about the pain. "Hey, hey! y/n. I'm right here, come on." That voice. I know that voice. I open my eyes, and there he is. Blocking out the sun, so it's only a protruding light around him like a halo. He smiles in relief, and pulls me closer. "I knew you wouldn't leave me, we're in this together alright?" My hands clasp his, and I nod weakly. Of course we are. Me and Thomas. We're in this together.
