"Did you sleep well last night?" Tobias asked, taking a sip of his own boba, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Better than I expected," Aria replied, a small smile creeping onto her face. "But you know how it is when you start a new semester. So many thoughts swirling around." She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, noticing the slight pink tint creeping into his ears as he looked at her.

"Yeah, I get that," Tobias said, his voice softening. "I remember the first few days were always chaotic for me, too. Are you excited about any of your classes?"

"I'm looking forward to my new graphic design class," Aria said enthusiastically. "I can't wait to draw some new designs. And I heard the professor is amazing."

"Sounds like you're going to have a blast," Tobias replied, genuinely interested. "Just don't forget to help me with my essays when the time comes cause I'm not good at writing that as you know."

"Only if you promise to buy me more of this delicious boba!" Aria teased, playfully nudging him with her shoulder.

"Deal," he laughed, the red hue on his ears deepening. They continued to walk, enjoying the easy banter that had once defined their friendship.

As they approached the library, the comforting scent of old books and polished wood that greeted them as they entered.

"Let's find a quiet spot," Tobias suggested, scanning the rows of bookshelves. "I have a few chapters I need to get through."

"Sounds good," Aria replied, walking beside him. As they moved deeper into the library, she noticed the way he would occasionally glance over at her, his expression a mix of concentration and admiration. It made her heart flutter.

They settled into a cozy nook at the back, surrounded by towering shelves filled with books. Aria pulled out her laptop, while Tobias grabbed a few reference books. The library's quiet ambiance enveloped them, allowing them to focus on their work—at least for a little while.

After some time, Aria noticed a book which she was searching for past few days was perched high on the shelf nearby.

"I'll be right back," she said, standing up. "I need that book over there."

Tobias looked up just as she started to reach for it. "Aria, I think that's a little too high—"

"I'll be fine!" she called, her determination kicking in. She found a small step stool tucked away in the corner and brought it over, positioning it carefully beneath the shelf. Standing on it, she stretched up to grab the book, her fingers brushing against the spine as she tried to get the book. Suddenly to her horror, she lost her balance, the stool wobbled beneath her, making her gasp. She closed her eyes in fear as she was ready to fall on the ground with a painful and loud thud But she didn't fall. Before she could fall, a pair of strong arms caught her mid-fall, pulling her close. She found herself opening her eyes and looking up into Tobias's face, his expression one of both worry and relief. His face flushed deep red, and as he held her steady, his ears turned the brightest shade of red.

"Ari, are you okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, but his concern was evident.

"I... I think so," she stammered, realizing how close they were. Their faces were only inches apart, and she could feel his heartbeat, strong and rapid, as his arms stayed around her.

They stood there in silence, eyes locked, both of them too stunned to move. Aria's face heated up, and she felt her own heartbeat pounding wildly. She could see that Tobias's face and ears were deep shade of red and somehow, the world seemed to slow down around them. Neither of them moved, captivated by the closeness, the vulnerability they rarely showed each other.

After a moment, Tobias gently let her go, clearing his throat awkwardly as he took a step back. "Uh... maybe I should've grabbed the book for you," he said with a sheepish smile, scratching the back of his head. His ears were still bright red.

Aria let out a small chuckle, trying to steady her own racing heart. "Maybe. But I'm fine, really." She brushed her hair back and glanced down, feeling an odd mix of embarrassment and exhilaration. "Thanks for catching me."

"Anytime," Tobias murmured, his eyes softening as he looked at her.

He then pulled out that book effortlessly and then returned to their seats, but the moment lingered between them, unspoken and electric. Aria tried to concentrate on her work, but she kept sneaking glances at Tobias, noticing the way his ears stayed red whenever he was with her. It was as if that small act of closeness had cracked open a door they'd both been too afraid to acknowledge.

Just as they started to settle back into their work, a small group of girls approached them, their faces lighting up as they noticed Tobias. One of them, a girl with blonde hair and a bright smile, stepped forward.

"Tobias! We're grabbing lunch later. Want to join us?" she asked, her gaze lingering a little too long on him.

Aria felt a pang in her chest, her smile fading slightly. She glanced at Tobias, waiting for his response.

He gave the girl a polite but firm smile. "Thanks, but I already have plans."

"Oh," the girl replied, disappointment flashing across her face before she quickly masked it with a forced smile. "Maybe another time, then?"

"Maybe," Tobias replied politely, turning back to his book as the girls walked away.

Aria chuckled softly, unable to hide her satisfaction at the situation. She leaned in a little closer to Tobias, raising an eyebrow. "Popular as ever, huh?"

He rolled his eyes, letting out a sigh. "It's nothing. I just... don't want to go with them. I'd rather stay here with you."

Her heart skipped a beat, the hint of jealousy fading as a warm glow replaced it. She couldn't ignore the fluttering feeling that lingered whenever he was near, the subtle ways he showed he cared. But she kept her tone light, hiding the depth of her emotions. "Well, I'm flattered," she teased, nudging him playfully.

They spent the rest of the afternoon in companionable silence, the earlier tension slowly fading but leaving behind something new and undeniably sweet. Even as they packed up to leave, Aria couldn't help but feel that things were changing between them—growing in ways she hadn't expected but couldn't help but welcome.
