Aisha
I huffed loudly as I dropped the shopping bags onto the small table, nearly knocking it over. The weight of them wasn't the problem—it was the message I had to deliver that annoyed me.
"Where's Ryan?" I asked Melissa, still catching my breath.
"He just went downstairs, ma'am. Maybe he's still in the garage. Would you like me to call him?"
"No, it's fine." I smiled and hurried towards the garage, muttering under my breath. For God's sake, Mom, why can't you just tell him yourself instead of making me the messenger?
It had been three weeks since I got engaged to Ryan, and our wedding date was still up in the air—thankfully. Not that I was against marrying him, but the whole thing felt rushed. I barely had time to process it.
I spotted Ryan just as he was about to get into his car.
"Ryan!" I called out.
He stopped mid-step and turned instantly, his face lighting up with a grin. "Aisha? Oh my God! What are you doing here? Are you staying over tonight? Should we go on a date-"
"Ryan, shut up for a second," I interrupted, placing a hand on my hip as I tried to catch my breath.
He laughed, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Why did you run all the way down here? You could've just called me."
"Yeah, well, that would've been great if I had remembered to charge my phone," I admitted, rolling my eyes.
His grin widened, and he made an exaggerated 'O' with his mouth. "Classic Aisha."
"Whatever." I waved him off. "Anyway, Mom wants you to come with us to the temple. Somewhere that starts with an R- I don't know the name, she just said you'd know."
His expression softened, and he nodded. "Of course, I'll come."
Without missing a beat, he pulled out his phone and hit a speed dial.
"Serena, cancel my next meeting," he said smoothly.
"No! No! It's on Thursday. Not right now!" I exclaimed, flailing my arms in frustration.
He arched a brow, completely unfazed. "And? You're here now. Did you really think I'd let you go so easily?"
Before I could argue, he was already on another call.
"Yeah, move the numbers for later. No, not that. The other one. Yeah. Good."
His voice shifted into that sharp, effortless business tone, the one that made it sound like he had the world under control.
It was impressive, sure, but right now? It was just annoying.
I lost interest faster than the speed of light.
With a quiet sigh, I wandered a few steps away, letting my gaze drift over the dimly lit garage. The air smelled faintly of oil and leather, the kind of rich, clean scent that clung to expensive cars. Rows of polished machines sat lined up, their sleek exteriors gleaming under the soft overhead lights. Each one probably worth more than my entire existence.
Wait—
I scowled, narrowing my eyes for a better look. Blinking hard, I rubbed them and glanced again, just to be sure.
A very familiar matte black Porsche was parked—No, it wasn't just parked—it was displayed.
The little platform lifted it slightly, accent lights placed strategically to make it look like something untouchable, something to be admired. Worshiped, even.
