I convinced Isla to try a slow dance and I felt as though my heart would burst out of my chest seeing her looking up to me with a small smile rather than anger or sadness. It had been a hard week, a rollercoaster of emotions between us and I was trying to be as patient as she was after learning everything.
Honestly, I felt like the luckiest man in the world that she was still here, still giving me a chance.
"So, have you..." I cleared my throat, "Have you thought about... what we talked about?"
Her eyes looked me over before looking down again. It was as if she knew how much I loved her looking up at me like that and intentionally didn't.
"Did you mean what you said?" She mumbled, still refusing my eyes and I bit my lip to try and stop myself from making her look up.
"I said a lot." I countered with a smirk and she pursed her lips, finally giving me a glare and heat spread down to my cock. Fuck, she knew what she did to me.
"The other night. You said..." She hesitated, biting her lip and I involuntarily licked my own bottom lip in need.
"You said I was the one." Her cheeks were a light pink when she looked back up to me and I realized we had stopped moving.
"You think I would make that up?" I asked lowly, a little hurt.
She didn't answer for a moment and blinked around the dance floor instead, trying to think of her next words. I waited patiently, pulling her into a slow dance once more.
"Have you been with anyone...?" She dared a look up to me under her lashes and I felt as though she had stabbed a knife right through my heart.
"Isla..." I started.
"I know, I know. It's been a long time, I shouldn't have asked. It's not my place to - " She started, beginning to pull away and I nearly yanked her back to me. She looked up to me incredulously.
"Will you let me finish?" I quirked a brow to her and after her large, beautiful eyes studied me for a moment, I saw a tiny hint of a smile.
"I always let you finish." Her voice was silky smooth and, Christ, if it didn't make me want to just get out of here with her...
Bringing myself back to the present, I steeled my nerves.
"Do you really think anyone could compare? I mean, I know you had some low self esteem, but I always felt like you were the one taking pity on me! Do you honestly think I could find anything as good as you, even just sex?" I was so genuine in my asking. Even after all this time, she didn't see that she was the catch. Everyone on campus was confused as to how she gave me a chance, even I was confused.
"I mean, sure, there were a few close calls with Four and then there was that one time with Vess that - " I stuttered offhandedly.
"Alex." Isla pulled me back to the conversation.
"Yes?" I blinked down to her.
"To answer your question," She took in a deep breath, laying a hand on my chest, "Yes. I have thought about what we talked about."
I got that sinking feeling again just like that night outside the bar. I had lost her too many times, I didn't know if I could handle it again.
"And...?" I breathed. We weren't even dancing anymore, much less hearing what was playing now.
"And..." She bit her lip as I waited on bated breath, "And I can't see myself saying no to you. Not because you're a spoiled little brat - you are - but, because..."
I was vibrating with giddiness, trying not to let it show, but couldn't help the smile spreading across my face.
"Because, you were my soulmate, too. And... I think you still are." Her cheeks were nearly the color of cherry blossoms as she smiled up at me, tears in her eyes.
I couldn't help but to pick her up and crush her to me as I laughed. People dancing around us moved out of the way and I didn't care about the strange looks we were getting. I never did. Not when I had what I never thought I would have.
I set her down and she was laughing, the tears clumping her eyelashes as she opened her mouth to say something, but stopped short at something behind me.
"Alex..." She started, brow furrowing as she touched my shoulder to make me turn.
Snapping my eyes behind us, I watched as Hayley stumbled down the stairs, tears running down her cheeks as she almost ran into a waiter.
She seemed to be barely able to see past tears as she ran to escape into a room past the bar.
We moved together to go to her.
