There was a gentle murmuring when I roused from sleep, seeing the trees swaying in the light through the window...

That wasn't my window. Blinking my eyes open more, hearing the sound of a page rustling as it is turned, I found myself curled up next to Vessel, who was sitting up against the headboard of his bed. His tired eyes tracked the words and the murmuring became more clear.

I certainly have not the talent which some possess, said Darcy, of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I often see done.

I was so in awe of him and his calming state that I didn't move for a moment, watching as his thumb slid over the page to quietly turn it.

My fingers, said Elizabeth, do not move over this instrument in the masterly manner which I see so many women's do. They have not the same force or rapidity, and do not produce the same expression...

He paused upon seeing my eyes blink up to him in confusion.

Good morning. Or I should say good afternoon.

He closed the book and set it on the nightstand beside him. I had so many questions, I couldn't decide which was more important.

"What am I doing in here?" I sat up slightly, looking around to see that I was indeed not where I had fallen asleep.

When he looked down at me, there was an expression in his face I couldn't decipher, but I didn't even give him a chance to answer.

"Did you take me while sleepwalking again?" I accused, sitting up more and feeling more awake with my offense.

His brow furrowed, jaw clenched as if the question angered him. I have not been sleepwalking, neither yesterday or last night.

He sat up straight, towering over me even while sitting.

You almost fell down the stairs sleepwalking yesterday, so I watched over you last night to make sure you didn't do anything else stupid.

This had me fuming.

"I don't sleepwalk!" I clenched my fists, "And I don't do anything stupid!"

Trying to save a man you don't know after he hurt you? He was close to baring his teeth as he leaned down over me, making me crane my head up to him. His eyes were fiery, dark irises icing over. Dying in pursuit of trying to save a lost cause?

He thought he was a lost cause..?

Shaking the thought off with a shake of my head, I growled and threw the blanket off of me and stomped to the door, snapping, "Don't talk to me until I'm done being pissed at you!"

So, never? He snapped back.

I went back to my own room, slamming the door before feeling bad at making such noise in the morning, only to look up at the clock and find it was late in the afternoon by now. He'd let me sleep through my lessons.

I grabbed my pillow and screamed into it.

I was still angry hours later after I'd laid on my bed staring at the ceiling before going out to find IV in the kitchen starting dinner.

"Can I help?" I asked, but felt the clip in my tone as I watched him move around the kitchen.

He was in his own world for a moment, listening to a Tears For Fears album lowly on a small speaker. He glanced up to me as he prepped vegetables.

"Sure, Trouble." He gave a small smile and offered me the cutting board to finish cutting potatoes into pieces. "I'm in a sort of hurry. I'm going out after making dinner, but I wanted to get it done, cause Vessel hasn't been eating and I want to make sure he does."
