"I told her my name and said it's nice to meet you" -Sing, Ed Sheeran
HatfulOfHallowsEd took another swig from his bottle of beer as he surveyed the party going on around him. There were so many people milling about; about four hundred posh-looking professional types... Ed barely saw any normal looking people at all, never mind anyone he vaguely recognised. He fidgeted with the sleeve his flannel shirt, feeling mightily underdressed in a room full of sports jackets and fancy dresses. He wondered what he was doing there at all and briefly considered leaving.
A week ago, he'd come offstage after his gig in Nashville and a guy claiming to be Taylor Swift's agent came up to him, saying that he had loved the show and that "Ms Swift has expressed an interest" in meeting Ed. So, Ed reluctantly took the man's card with Taylor's address written neatly on the back, promising to attend a "small soirée" that was going to be thrown there in a week. Though he didn't doubt that this was Taylor's house, Ed did wonder if Taylor even wanted to meet him in the first place; he'd been here all of two hours and nobody had approached him (except one woman who asked him to valet her car. Awkward.). He gave up. This was by far the most uncomfortable evening of his life. Then, just as he was standing up, a voice called out;
"Mr. Sheeran, there you are. I've been looking for you all evening. I wondered if you'd come at all. Follow me, if you wouldn't mind." Without having waited for a response, Taylor's agent (whose name he knew but couldn't remember) grabbed Ed's elbow and pulled him through the throng. They made their way out of the huge living room and into a smaller, quieter room. There were only about twenty people in here, which immediately put Ed more at ease. The group turned as the door shut and the agent clapped his hands together.
"So Taylor, look who I found all lost and alone in the kitchen." The conversation that the group had been having had totally died, and Ed blushed. They looked him up and down, sizing him up and definitely wondering who the hell this badly dressed loner was. The crowd parted slightly, and Ed watched as a tall, blonde woman walked through. She was undeniably extremely pretty, arguably better looking in person than in the magazines. This thought didn't help Ed's blush.
"Erm... Hi" Who was talking? Oh God, he was. Why was his voice so high-pitched? He cleared his throat before going on. "I'm Ed. Sheeran. Uh... Nice to meet you. I think." Taylor's face broke out in a gentle smile. Ok, it was definitely nice to meet her.
"Hi Ed. I know who you are, and honestly I think the pleasure's all mine" She stretched out a hand, and as Ed shook it, he grinned slightly to himself.
Not such a bad party after all.
