Feathers as pure as fresh snow fell from the azure sky, gently touching reflective water that composed the ground and creating ripples around them as if it were fabric. Everything around Adria was clean and pure, and not a single cloud blocked her view of the brilliant blue sky. There was no sound, only the light tapping of the feathers against the water, and Adria cupped her hands together to catch one in its decent. Its weight amounted to nothing, feeling simply like a light fuzz against the palms of her hands. She didn't know why she was in such a blissful place, or how she came to be there, however nothing managed to worry her.
"Is this what heaven's like?" she asked herself, allowing the white feather to continue its journey onto the ground in front of her. They began to fall more violently, hailing down from above and scattering across the water. There was a sound, like that of a trumpet, that reverberated throughout the heavenly place, and the faint beating of wings could be heard traveling in Adria's direction. The sounds were becoming loud, sounding more similar to shouting that their previous whispers, and she pressed her hands over her ears. She quickly ducked her head as the sound gusted above her, creating a strong wind that sent her hazelnut hair spiraling backwards in smooth ringlets. Adria opened her eyes, having had shut them in order to protect them from the harsh wind, and looked down at the watery ground beneath her. Something had changed, turning the water a deep shade of crimson, and something was visible further beneath it. Adria squinted her eyes, bringing her head down closer in an attempt to make out what it was. She failed to see anything, only more red that seemed to seep down into the lowest recesses of the eternal ocean. There was a sudden sound, different from the trumpeting she heard prior, and it was muffled and difficult to distinguish. A hand was thrust towards her face, pressing against the opposite side of the water as if it were a glass wall. Another one soon followed, and one after another hands pressed against the border as the sounds grew louder. Adria jerked back, standing up to look around in fright and cover her ears once more. She tried to shield herself from this nightmare, however failed and only heard the horrible scratching of the hands and the sound that wouldn't cease. The screaming wouldn't leave her alone. She felt the world shake, as if an earthquake had managed its way into her heaven, and she toppled over onto her side. She locked her eyes shut, not daring to open them again until the shaking ceased. It was no more, having had only occurred for a brief moment, and Adria finally felt at peace once more. Slowly she opened her eyes, feeling the hardwood floor against the side of her head. She was staring at a blank wall, nothing but sky blue paint, and a white blanket found its way over her back. Coming to a conclusion, it would have seemed that she had simply fallen out of bed. There was a knock at the white wooden door, and she heard it creak open as someone entered the room.
"Why hello there, sleeping beauty" Anthony said, leaning over the side of the bed to look down at his younger sister with a smile. Adria grunted, getting to her feet with the blanket clasped tightly in her hand. "I take it you slept well, taking into consideration the way your hair looks" Anthony grinned, and Adria glared at him angrily.
"Shut up and help me fix this" she stated bluntly, throwing the blanket over his head. It landed gently atop him, and he crawled backwards so he could once again see daylight. Together they pulled the corners over opposite sides of the mattress, straightening it so there were no creases. Anthony fixed the pillow, which had been flung over the side of the bed, and took notice of a small rabbit that had been placed carefully against the backboard. It was old, with numerous stitches along its plush body, and its blue button eyes were dulled with age. It was a dingy gray color, however he was sure it was white at some point in its lifetime.
"I didn't realize you still sleep with dolls" he teased, holding it up by one of its floppy ears. A red streak was painted across Adria's face, and quickly she snatched it away from him.
