I gaze into the bathroom mirror, smoothing my white shirt with minty green stripes. The sleeves fall to my elbows and I brush my dark hair to the side, the sloppy fishtail braid almost falling to my elbows. I blink my dark hazel eyes and turn away, walking out of the bathroom. The hallway is filled with students, heading for lunch.
"Artemis!" I turn at the sound of my name. Annelise rushed over, looking slightly flustered. "Hi," she breathed, as we continued walking to the cafeteria. "
"Hi." I reply. "I'm so hungry," Annelise says with a groan. I nod. "Same," I say as my stomach grumbles. "I like your outfits," An eighth grader named Loren says as she and her cluster of friends passes. "Thanks!" Me and Annelise say together. "I do like your shoes. Are they new?" Annelise questions, gesturing to my mint green converse as we enter the lunch room, raising her voice slightly to be heard over all the commotion. "Actually they're my sister's. There a little bit big." I answer as we shuffle into the lunch line. "Oh. You can't tell," She commente as she grabbed a tray and handed it to me before picking one up for herself. The lunch lady plops a square piece of cheesy pizza onto my tray. "Thanks." I say, stepping after Annelise and grabbing a plum from the salad bar thingy. Honestly, I don't know what that's called and I don't know if I ever will. "Do you know what sports you're gonna try out for?" She asks as we sit down together at a table. "Gymnastics?" I nod, taking a bite of pizza. School lunch sucks. Like I mean I love pizza, but this is kinda nasty. I've been doing gymnastics since I was three, and it's one of the few things that I'm actually good at. Gymnastics, dance, people tell me that I'm a good singer, but I'm not so sure. Those three and astrology. You know, like horoscopes, the signs. I'm an Aries, and Annelise is a Sagittarius. Don't even get me started. Aries and Sagittarius make one of the most stable friendships, and also are said to be the best couples. This isn't my religion, I'm Christian and believe in god, not the stars. I just find it interesting that's all. My older sister, she's the oldest out of me and my two brothers. Well, her name is Alex. She's a Gemini, my older brother, Chris is a Scorpio, I'm an Aries, and my younger brother Jorge is a Capricorn. All together, we are a force to be reckoned with. "How about you?" I ask Annelise.
"I'm not sure. I wanna audition for Romeo and Juliet," she starts. "You would totally nail it," I say.
She's like the best actress that I know. I take another bite of pizza. "This is some greasy crap." I mutter, setting the piece back down and picking up the plum, it's dark purple skin smooth and cold against my hand. I take a bite and swallow in satisfaction.Wow that really sucks
