The Roof

"I don't think you two should be out here" Wooyoung, for the first time in his seven years, actually said something logical. San and Mingi rolled their eyes and ignored him. What was the worst that could happen with them sitting on the roof outside their window? To their nine year old minds, there was nothing but in reality, there were so many things that caused Hongjoong to forbid any of the boys from sitting on the roof, after the first time he caught Yeosang doing it. The kid had insisted that he was safe and only did it so he could get better signal from his drones but either way, Hongjoong made it a rule to stay off the roof. Which, in a family of all boys, making anything a rule was like inviting it openly.

And now here were two of them, actively breaking that same rule. With another about to join them in their mischief.

"It's fine, Woo. Hyung won't catch us" San assured the younger boy. Wooyoung still didn't look convinced but if his hyungs were doing it, it had to be fine right? Before he even got one leg out the window, two hands wrapped around his waist and pulled him back inside. Yeosang's head peeked out of the window a moment later, Wooyoung squished under him.

"What are you two idiots doing?" Yeosang wondered, sounding annoyed.

"Just enjoying the night air, Sangie-hyung" Mingi grinned. Yeosang's eyes narrowed suspiciously and he climbed out onto the roof with them, Wooyoung right behind him. Yeosang pulled the smaller boy into his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around Wooyoung to keep him from sliding off the slippery roof tiles. Wooyoung struggled but he was no match for his older brother's strength.

"You're not supposed to be out here. What if hyung catches you?" Yeosang reminded them. San rolled his eyes.

"He's not going to catch us. You worry too much" San muttered.

"You sure about that?" Yunho peeked out of his and Yeosang's room, joining the younger boys on the roof. All that was missing now was Seongwha. And Hongjoong, of course but everyone was really hoping he wouldn't find out what they were doing.

"No, they aren't. You're all a bunch of idiots" Seongwha leaned out his window, arms crossed and a stern expression on his face. San, Mingi, Yeosang and Wooyoung all looked at each other and froze. This was bad.

"Hyung, wait-!" Wooyoung noticed Seongwha disappearing back inside first and made a mad scramble for the window, trying to stop Seongwha. Yeosang reached for him before Wooyoung could slip off but missed. San lurched forward, catching his younger brother by the back of his shirt and pulling Wooyoung back up.

"Idiot, you could have been hurt" San scolded mildly.

"That's rather the point of why I forbid you boys from coming out here, don't you think?" Hongjoong interrupted them. Within seconds, all five boys were back inside. Hongjoong caught San and Mingi by the arm, stopping them from escaping the room.

"This was your idea, wasn't it?" He guessed.

"No, it was Wooyoung's idea" Mingi shook his head. Wooyoung gasped, betrayed.

"It was not!" He argued. Yeosang nodded in agreement so Hongjoong knew it was true. If Yeosang said it wasn't Wooyoung's idea, then it wasn't. Mingi yelped, Hongjoon's hand landing on his backside.

"Ow!" He whined, trying to back away but Hongjoong held on too tightly.

"You know better than to lie to me, young man. And all of you know that the roof was off limits. What do you have to say for yourselves?" Hongjoong waited, finally releasing the twins. None of the boys said anything for a long time.

"Did Hwa-hyung tell on us?" Wooyoung wondered, though it was pretty obvious that Seongwha had tattled, in concern for the safety of his brothers. Nobody could fault him for that. Most of the time, Seongwha was good about keeping his brothers' mischief a secret unless it compromised their safety.

"Of course he did!" Mingi snapped. Hongjoong turned to him, arms crossed.

"Your hyung was worried and for good reason. You're all in trouble now" Hongjoong stated. All the boys knew that already but hearing it said out loud was worse, more final. Hongjoong caught Wooyoung first, picking the kid up and spanking him twice before carrying him to his room. Jongho was already asleep and within minutes, Wooyoung was too. The others tried to hurry to bed, pretending to be asleep in order to avoid being in trouble but it didn't work. All of them, except Seongwha and Jongho, went to bed with sore bottoms that night.
