Cheryl rolled over and pressed the snooze button on her dreaded alarm clock. 6:00am on a Friday and it was her turn to do the school and nursery run.

She rolled back on to her back and stared at the ceiling for a while before the alarm went off again, after being snoozed.

She looked at the time and yawned before sitting up on the edge of the bed and stretching.

She turned around and saw Jean, laying facing the other way, silently.

She stood up, pulled her gown on and walked out of the room and into her 5 year old daughter's room.

"Wakey wakey." She cooed, less enthusiastically than usual.

Her daughter, Ava, woke up and squinted her eyes.

"Get up, come on." Cheryl said, already opening the draws to find some school uniform.

She folded it and lay it on the chair next to Ava's bed. "Get your wash done, get dressed and come and get your breakfast." She said before leaving the room and entering her 3 year old daughter's room, Ella.

"Good morning." Cheryl cooed, again, a little less enthusiastic than usual.

Ella woke up and watched her mother as she opened the curtains and got her nursery clothes out.

Ella reached her arms out as Cheryl swept her up and sat her on her lap. Usually, they'd sing a song or read a story, but today Cheryl dressed her straight away and carried her downstairs.

She sat her down in the front room in front of the TV as Ava joined her 5 minutes later.

Cheryl rushed around the kitchen, preparing toast. Usually, she'd cover the toast with jam, but today she didn't feel like cleaning up the messy faces and sticky hands. She didn't feel like doing the usual.

She gave each of her daughters their breakfast before rushing upstairs to get herself changed.

After all the events of the morning were complete, it was 7:45am and nearly time to leave for school.

She grabbed two toothbrushes from the sink and quickly brushed Ava's teeth, and then brushed Ella's teeth. Usually she would put the brushes back, but today, she just left them on the counter.

She put Ava's long curly brown hair in a pair of pig-tails and Ella's short curly brown hair in a bow on the top of her head.

She handed them both their school bags and got them both into the car before driving to school.

When they got there, she let the girls out the car and took them to their classroom. Usually, she would stay and chat with at least one of the teachers, but today, she just said her goodbyes and left.

She got back in the car and sighed. She was sick and tired of the same routine, every single day.

She looked at her clock and saw it was half past 8 and she had a day off.

One thing she did do as usual was drive to Starbucks and got her daily Vanilla Latté, but she didn't pick up Jean's usual Strawberry Cooler.

She drove home and pulled into the driveway, got out the car and opened the door to the smell of freshly cooked bacon.

"I'm home!" She called out, walking towards the kitchen still sipping her Latté.

"Just in time!" Jean said, serving up a bacon sandwich for Cheryl, covering it in just the right amount of tomato ketchup.

"Do we have any brown sauce?" She asked, before even saying thank you.

"Brown sauce?" Jean repeated.

"Yes... Can I have some... Please?" Cheryl replied.

Jean got some out the cupboard and handed it to her, confused. "I didn't even know you liked brown sauce." He said.

"Just fancied a change!" She replied before taking her plate and walking into the front room to eat it, something she never usually did.

She switched on the TV as the 9 o'clock news was on.

She watched as many different stories flashed on the screen until one caught her eye.

"Katy Perry has split from long-term fiancé John Mayer."

Cheryl listened carefully as she was to go on the Graham Norton show with Katy on Monday, and wanted to appear knowledgable about at least some of her life.

Jean walked in and sat on the sofa next to her, she quickly switched the channels as she suddenly felt defensive, as if she didn't want Jean to judge Katy.

"The girls get ready for school okay today?" He asked.

"Fine. They were fine." Cheryl replied.

"Why don't we go out tonight? And I don't just mean out to a restaurant, why don't we go out to a club?" Jean suggested.

Cheryl looked at him in shock. He never suggested anything like that, the most he'd usually suggest was going out for dinner.

"Yes! I mean, yes, why not! I can call Kim to have the girls." She said, her face lighting up.

She got up and called Kimberley, her best friend, to ask her whether she could come over and look after Ava and Ella tonight. She said yes and said she'd be over at 7 o'clock.

The last time she went out to a club was last year for Lily, her PA's, birthday.

Cheryl was excited, she was excited to do something out of the usual.
