Jerome lingered, longer than he wanted to. In truth he wanted to just go in and chat as he always had before but... he knew things had already changed too much for that. Part of him wanted to just abandon the whole idea, but... He knew he couldn't. This may be his last chance to see if there was anything of the old Y/n in there.
He gathered up all his courage and turned to be faced with the wooden door, giving it a gentle tap.
"Come in?" Y/n's voice spoke up from within,
Jerome slowly pushed open the door to her and Nina's room, but only she was inside. But her room made Jerome's heart feel tight.
Y/n's half of the room, was once a pale purple that she had no control over as it was painted that way before she arrived. Her bed in the corner by the window with her black sheets and soft bat-printed blanket, with her collection of Mythos' stuffies, stacked down the side. Classic horror cover posters framed perfectly on her walls, shoes lined up by her wardrobe and books stacked almost to the ceiling. Belts and scarves around her bedpost. And her leather jacket hung with delicate care.
But that wasn't the room Jerome walked into.
Now... Y/n's room, was still the pale purple Victor had painted so long ago, Her bed pulled out into the centre of the room a desk was now by the window covered in make-up and skincare products with a large light-up mirror. Her bedsheets were pink and white striped with only a brown bear on the pillow. Her walls were bare, shoes hidden in her wardrobe, books shoved under her bed, Bedposts clear of items, and her leather jacket tossed in the bottom of her wardrobe out of view.
Y/n sat at the desk, dressed in a small yellow dress with printed daises, brushing slowly through her hair, the blonde bleached hair breaking off as she brushed. She saw him in the mirror and looked excited for a second but then her face turned sad as she set down her brush.
"Oh... Hi Jerome..."
"Hey," He forced a smile, "How's things..."
"They're okay," she answered dismissively.
"Are... are you sure?" He asked glancing at her bandaged wrist,
She nodded as she slowly turned to sit sideways on her chair, "Yeah... Jerome I-"
"I know." he quickly spoke up, "I know. I know Danny... doesn't like us... being alone...but I..." he choked a little unable to find the words, "But... I just wanted to give you your birthday present. I know it's a day early but, you know me."
She slowly smiled, "Thanks Jerome, But..."
"But?"
"Danny... He might..." She trailed off,
"You can tell him it's from Nina, or Mara or... whoever won't make him upset."
"I don't know..." she nervously rubbed up her arm,
"Please Y/n," He begged coming closer, "It's not much, but... I... I miss you," he finally said,
She slowly met his eyes, her own already glossy,
"I miss my best friend,"
She nodded, "Can I open it?"
"Of course you can," He smiled, He closed the gap between them and softly sat on her bed offering her the wrapped gift, "Here,"
"Thank you," She smiled holding it close to her chest, she went to open it but... A loud notification sound along with her phone's vibration made her jump, almost frightened, without even hesitating she grabbed her phone and began to text,
"Danny?" Jerome asked unable to meet her eye,
"Yeah..." She admitted, once finished she put her phone down again, "Sorry..."
