Jasper and I walked around the town for nearly two hours and had found nothing. Down back alleys, main streets, parks, rivers, train stations, bars, everywhere. And nothing. Even asking around but still nothing. We took a break, to rehydrate and think like a killer, at 'Best Tea Day's'.
"I want to show you something after our tea stop." Jasper announced as we entered the tea rooms. His words soft as if it were more like 'I have something to ask you after our little tea stop'.
"Sure anything." I replied wanting to be the one you can trust at the station.
I was heading for a table near the kitchen for I knew the owner of the shop, but Jasper stopped me and pointed to a sign which read 'Please stand here and wait to be seated. Thank You.'
"Huh, they final took me advice." I said oblivious to Jasper listening to me.
"I'm sorry, were you talking to me."
"Oh, sorry. Was I thinking allowed?"
"Apparently, you were."
"I started up 'Best Tea Day's' with my Mother, Father and sister before both my parents died. Come," I started to tell the story of my life, and gestured to Jasper to follow me. "Mother died of childbirth and Farther saw no use in life once Mother died. So it was a 16-year-old looking after a 6 month baby and a 10-year-old girl. This meant that Maisy and I had to take over the family business. The cook and waitresses took care of us as well. It is good to back in a childhood space."
"I'm sorry I didn't know your childhood was so distressing. " Jasper could some how see through my smile. "I lived with Mother and Father in a large estate house. They were serving staff to a Lord of some kind. He was kind to us and had children of his own, so I was never alone. However, once I came to the age of 16 I had started working for the lord, Stable boy to start with, then tutor for his grandchildren. I was taught with his children so I was well educated. I'd had enough teaching so turned to the police to teach me new skills and, after 6 years, here we are." we had our talking about our childhood and I introduced the staff at 'Best Tea Day's' to Jasper and then we left and headed straight back to the station.
"Did you want to show me something?" I asked after remembering what was said before we got to know each other a little.
"Yes, I had not forgotten. Now, close your eyes." Jasper said putting his hand over my eyes. "Mind the step... Yes...There we go.....Don't open your eyes...HA! Ready?" Jasper was guiding me somewhere but I had no idea where I was. He took his hand from my face, I went to grab his hand, a soft hand, soft and smooth not at all like a man's hand, but is was large. An arm reached around me as if to support me. I wobbled, my head was spinning. I no sense of balance. My feet stumble I heared feet running. You can't catch me! I try to open my eyes, but they won't. What has happened? Was this all a dream? Was Jasper a character of my imagination?
I am in the cafe again, but this time Maisy is there with me and Baby Jones.
"Who's that Tapping on my roof?" a gruff voice echoes around us. Both me and Baby Jones giggle, is that David? The Big Friendly David? He was always there for us. Even when Farther Left the earth.
"Davy, Davy."
"Yes, Miss."
"Davy, I love you." was this my voice? It must have been for I was picked up by David. His face became closer and clearer.
"And I love you too." He poked my nose with his big, soft hand. The soft hand that I touched earlier?
