I said goodbye to Niall and he invited me to his wedding in Dublin in two months. Of course I said that I will text him when it's time. He even told me to bring Serena with me, but I declined because she's currently just a friend. If she considers me her friend.
My day in work was the exact same. Boring and tiring. I need to find something else. Something that has to do with what I studied. "Harry?" I hear a feminine voice calling my name and I snap my head at the direction of the voice. I take the cigarette off my mouth and smile at Serena. "Am I welcomed?"
"Of course you are." I say and she sits in a chair in her balcony. "You like it out here?"
"Yeah, it's very peaceful. There's not much hustle and bustle in this neighbourhood. It's calm. The cars and motorcycles are just a faint sound in the background, reminding you that, in the end, you're not alone." She gives me a very profound answer and I stare at her, trying to figure out what made her think such a thing.
She's not easy to read. She always hides her feelings behind a strong facade that from time to time it seems to crack. "I agree." I nod my head and she stays silent, watching at the stars.
"Do you think we're alone?"
"What do you mean?" I raise my brow at her but she doesn't take her gaze from the night sky.
"Do you think that we're the only planet with living creatures?" I chuckle at her question and shake my head.
"No, I don't." I shake my head and she hums. "I mean, it would seem stupid if I did. There are millions of galaxies out there. We inhabit in one of those. Maybe there's no other planet in our galaxy with living creatures, but I refuse to believe that other galaxies don't have planets with life on them."
"I like the way you think." She whispers.
"Thank you." I smile at her and she gives me a toothless grin. "I'm fascinated by the stars and the whole meaning of universe."
"Me too."
"Why are you so closed up?" I dare to ask and I see her face changing expression in a matter of seconds.
"I have problems, like everyone else." She sighs. I take a drag of my cigarette and give the rest to her. She hesitantly takes it from my fingers and places it between her plump lips. The orange part is trapped in the opening of her mouth and the rest hangs loosely in the air.
"Try it. It may give you some courage to open up to me." Her lips enclose the base of the cigarette and her cheeks hollow when she takes a drag of it, that makes the little fire on the end, light up again. She takes it out of her mouth and she violently coughs.
"This is horrible. How do you smoke this thing?" She asks me with a hoarse voice.
"I got used to it." I shrug and she laughs.
"Well, I don't want to get used to it." She laughs and gives it back to me. I take it in my lips and I taste the red stain her lipstick left. I smirk at myself and look at her from my peripheral vision. She has her head hang low as a pink colour finds its way to her cheeks. We had the same though.
I exhale the smoke in the air and look at her through the blurry smoke. "I like you, Serena"
Her eyes go wide and the ends of her lips curl in a sweet smile. "I like you too, Harry"
....
