Chapter 7~ Prom part 2

As soon as we stepped into the venue Music boomed through my ears.   Strobe lights hit my eyes.  The smell of sweaty hormonal teenagers filled the air.  But for some reason I loved it.  I grabbed Cam's hand and dragged him to the dance floor.  He didn't resist.  Once we hit the dance floor,  we didn't wait no more.  Cam grabbed my hand and spun me around. I laughed  uncontrollably until The song ended. the lights dimmed.   The song Lucky by Jason Maraz and Colbie Calliet  started to play.  Cam grabbed my waist and i wrapped my arms around his neck.  We slowly swayed side to side;  our eyes locked.   I listened to the lyrics.

"I'm Lucky to be in love with my best friend."

something about those lyrics made me think about Shawn.  I bit my lip and scanned the dance floor.  But I had no luck finding him.  The more the song went on the more my heart ached.   suddenly the song stopped.  Everyone had their attention on the stage.  I turned my head in that direction.  What I saw surprised me.  Shawn was on stage with his guitar.

"I uh wrote a song for someone very special to me. They know who they are." He scanned the room. Once he saw me. He winked. I smiled to myself

He strummed some cords and started singing.

All the students cheered.

Did Shawn really write that for me. My stomach fluttered with butterflies and my cheeks flared up. All I wanted to do right now is hug Shawn. Without thinking any more I ran towards the side of the stage where Shawn stepped off. As soon as I reached it my face dropped.

There stood Lauren and Shawn making out.

"I can't believed you wrote that for me!" Lauren said with excitement.

Shawn was about to say something then he saw me.

"Hey Em."

I put on a fake smile.

"It was a great song. You must really love Lauren."

He opened his mouth but no words came out. Lauren butted in.

"Of course he does!" She planted a kiss on his cheek.

Shawn's eyes never left mine. Tears pricked at the back of my eyes. I managed to maintain my forced smile.

" I better go get back to Cam. Have fun Shawn." My voice cracked saying his name.

I turned on my heels and made my way back to Cam.

"Hey." Cam said wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

"Hey." My voice cracked.

"You okay?" His eyebrows furrowed looking down at me.

"Y-yeah. Can we go outside for a bit. All these sweaty teenagers filling the air is making it hard to breath."

He rubbed my shoulder.

"Yeah." He said with a genuine smile.

(Shawn's POV)

I stepped off stage with confidence. Suddenly a pair of lips smashed into mine. I kissed back it was passionate then they pulled away I didn't realize it was Lauren who was kissing me. I was hoping it was the one who I wrote the song for.

" I can't believe you wrote that for me!" She was clearly excited

But the song wasn't for her; it was for-

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Emily. Oh no did she just see all of that. My eyes locked with hers I stood there frozen. I mangled to say two words

"Hey Em."

She had a smile on but I could tell it wasn't real it was a forced smile.

"It was a great song. You must really love Lauren."

I tried to speak. I tried to tell her the song was for her. I tried to tell her I wasn't in love with Lauren. I tried to tell her I loved her. But nothing came out of my mouth.

"Of course he does!" Lauren said planting a kiss on my cheek.

It sent chills down my spine and they weren't good chills.

" I better go get back to Cam. Have fun Shawn."

Her voice cracked as she said my name.

It hurt her to say my name. I hurt her. I hurt my best friend. I hurt the one person I knew inside and out. I hurt the one person that knew me better than I did my self. I hurt the one person I cared about the most.

When I finally snapped out of my thoughts she was gone.
