The chaos of the night had finally settled, leaving only the two of them curled up in bed, tangled in each other's arms. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of the bedside lamp, casting a warm ambiance over their exhausted bodies.
Seungcheol let out a deep sigh, pressing his forehead against Jeonghan's shoulder, his arms still locked securely around his waist. "You're never doing something like that again," he mumbled, voice laced with lingering worry.
Jeonghan smiled lazily, his fingers threading through Seungcheol's hair, nails scratching lightly against his scalp in a way that always made him relax. "You say that like I planned to fall fifty feet."
Seungcheol pulled back just enough to glare at him. "You might as well have! Handcuffing me to the damn hotel bed, letting everyone else in on the plan but me—"
Jeonghan chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to Seungcheol's forehead to shut him up. "Hey, it worked out, didn't it?"
Seungcheol groaned, his grip tightening around Jeonghan's waist, as if afraid he'd disappear if he let go. "That's not the point. I don't care how well it worked out—I care about you. You could've died, Jeonghan."
The weight of his words settled between them, serious and heavy, but Jeonghan just let out a soft sigh, resting his cheek against Seungcheol's hair. "I know."
Seungcheol shifted slightly, tilting his head up to meet Jeonghan's gaze, searching his eyes. "Then why did you take that risk?"
Jeonghan was quiet for a moment before sighing. "Because sometimes... I feel like I have to. We don't always get to control what happens to us, Cheol. But at least this time, I did."
Seungcheol frowned, clearly not liking that answer, but he didn't argue. Instead, he just buried his face back into Jeonghan's neck, inhaling the familiar scent of him. "You're still never doing something like that again," he muttered stubbornly.
Jeonghan huffed a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "You really are impossible, you know that?"
Seungcheol smirked against his skin. "I could say the same about you."
For a while, they just laid there in silence, bodies pressed together, the rhythm of their breathing syncing up. Jeonghan's fingers traced lazy patterns along Seungcheol's back, and Seungcheol let himself melt into the touch, exhaustion finally settling in.
Then, out of nowhere, Jeonghan chuckled softly.
Seungcheol lifted his head slightly. "What?"
Jeonghan smirked. "I was just thinking... after everything that went down tonight, being one of the 'nation's boyfriends' should be easy, right?"
Seungcheol blinked, then groaned, dropping his head back onto Jeonghan's chest. "Oh my God."
Jeonghan laughed, clearly amused by his suffering. "What? I'm just saying—surviving an assassination attempt, successfully tricking a room full of people, and making it out alive? All in a day's work."
Seungcheol lifted his head just enough to shoot him a glare. "You are unbelievable."
Jeonghan grinned. "And yet, you love me."
Seungcheol sighed, giving up entirely. "Yeah. Unfortunately, I do."
Jeonghan softened at that, his teasing fading just slightly as he reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind Seungcheol's ear. "Good," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Seungcheol let out a slow breath, his heart settling into an easy rhythm as he pulled Jeonghan closer, their foreheads touching. "Go to sleep, Jeonghan."
Jeonghan hummed, already feeling his body relax against Seungcheol's warmth. "Only if you promise not to sulk in the morning."
Seungcheol scoffed. "I make no promises."
Jeonghan laughed quietly but didn't push further. Instead, he just curled deeper into Seungcheol's embrace, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath his palm.
For the first time that night, everything was peaceful. No more danger, no more elaborate schemes—just the two of them, safe and warm in each other's arms.
And as Seungcheol held him close, he silently swore he'd do whatever it took to keep it that way.
