Vanya sat in the backseat of the car, her small hands gripping her favorite stuffed bunny. She swung her legs excitedly, watching as Daddy drove through the streets. Today was a very special day—she was going to meet her baby brother!
"Daddy, are we almost there?" she asked, her big brown eyes shining with anticipation.
Vansh glanced at her through the rearview mirror and smiled. "Almost, princess. Are you excited?"
"Yes!" she giggled. "Will he be small like my doll?"
Vansh chuckled. "Even smaller, but he will grow fast."
Vanya gasped dramatically. "Then I have to teach him everything, right?"
"Of course," Vansh said. "You're his big sister now."
That made her sit up straighter. She liked the sound of that. Big sister. It sounded important, like a superhero.
When they reached the hospital, Vansh lifted her in his arms, carrying her inside. Vanya's eyes widened when they entered the room. Her baby brother lay in a little cradle next to Mama's bed. He was so tiny, wrapped in a soft blue blanket. His face was scrunched up like he was thinking very hard.
"He's so small!" Vanya whispered, afraid to wake him up.
"Do you want to hold him?" Vansh asked.
Vanya's eyes grew even bigger. "Me? Really?"
Riddhima, looking tired but happy, nodded. "Come sit beside me."
Vansh helped Vanya onto the bed, and gently, ever so carefully, Mama placed the baby in her arms. He was warm and soft, and when he yawned, her heart melted.
"What's his name, Mama?" she whispered.
Riddhima smiled. "Aarav."
"Aarav," Vanya repeated, beaming. She looked up at Vansh and Riddhima. "I love him already."
Vansh kissed the top of her head. "And he will love you, too, princess."
Vanya made a promise to herself right then—she would be the best big sister ever.
Vanya cradled Aarav in her arms, her tiny fingers brushing against his soft cheek. He made a small noise, wriggling slightly, and she giggled.
"He sounds like a kitten!" she whispered excitedly.
Riddhima chuckled, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind Vanya's ear. "Newborns make all sorts of little sounds, sweetheart."
Vanya studied Aarav's tiny fingers, which were curled into fists. "When will he play with me?" she asked, tilting her head curiously.
Vansh smiled and sat beside them. "Not for a while, princess. Right now, he just eats, sleeps, and cries."
Vanya scrunched up her nose. "Crying? A lot?"
Riddhima nodded. "Sometimes."
Vanya gasped dramatically. "Then I have to be extra nice to him so he won't be sad!"
Vansh chuckled. "That's the spirit, princess."
Just then, Aarav let out a tiny sneeze, making Vanya's eyes widen in surprise. She turned to Vansh. "Daddy! He did a 'choo' like me!"
Vansh nodded. "Yes, babies do that too."
Vanya giggled, leaning down to whisper to Aarav, "Don't worry, baby brother. I'll teach you everything, even how to sneeze like a big kid!"
Aarav made a soft cooing sound, and Vanya's heart swelled with love. She gently kissed his forehead. "Welcome home, Aarav," she whispered.
Vansh wrapped an arm around her, pressing a kiss to her temple. "You're going to be the best big sister, Vanya."
