August 2007.
"Annabelle! Can you put that box right there?" You might be wondering what amy Mom and I are doing. Well, we've just arrived in our new house—in a new country. If you asked me, I hated having to move. I was doing just fine in France, and I had all I needed.
"Annabelle! Are you listening to me or what?" Mom asked, ripping me away from my thoughts.
"Yes mom, I'm coming!" I replied. Our new house was beautiful, I at least had to admit that—but I still don't like being here. "Mom, where do you want me to put that box?" I asked.
"I already did it, because took too long. Actually, I need you to go to the supermarket with me. We need food for today and tomorrow at least." I nodded and grabbed my iPhone and purse.
"Are you ready sweetie?" My mom asked. "Yes mom. Let's go!" I wanted this to be over with sooner than later, to be honest. Mom drove to the supermarket and we found a good parking space. I grabbed a basket and started to read the list as we were walking inside. Upon reading what was on it, I looked at mom angrily. "Mom! This is a list for at least a week!" I didn't mean to be so angry, but the trip here had really worn me out and I had a short temper, as well. Not really a good combo.
"I know baby girl, but I needed help and your dad is working with some of his clients." Oh yeah, I neglected to mention that my father is a lawyer. One of the best lawyers in Europe, to be precise. He worked pretty much all the time.
Mom started to grab the food we needed that was on the list. I was grabbing some noodles when I heard my Mom gasp loudly."Oh my God!" She squealed. Curious, I looked at her and noticed a woman talking with her. I glanced at the woman and then my stomach clenched. It was Cécilia. Cécilia Noah, also known as Joakim's mother. I was starting to go to another aisle when I heard the voice I didn't want to hear.
"Oh my God! Look at you Anna!" Shit. I couldn't escape. Turning around, I put a fake smile on my face and started to walk towards my mom.
"Hello Cécilia. How are you?" I asked politely.
"I'm fine sweetie. What about you?" She smiled and hugged me real hard.
"I'm fine. Just shopping." I was starting to feel really bad. I just wanted to this conversation to end.
"I'm so glad I saw you two today! Why don't we make a dinner together tomorrow? In our house, just like the old times!" Cécilia asked, sounding really happy.
"That would be so nice!" Shit. This wasn't going too well, in my opinion at least. "What do you think Anna?" asked Mom really excited.
"Yes...it would be amazing." I said slowly. I was getting so sick. My stomach was aching real bad, and not only my stomach. Mom and Cécilia said goodbye and we started to walk to the cashier. We paid and put everything in the trunk.
"Why you acted that way Anna? I taught you better than that." Mom asked.
"Sorry mom...I'm just not in the mood." I lied.
"You better apologize tomorrow." Mom said sternly, giving me a glare.
"I know Mom, I will. Don't worry." I replied with a soft sigh.
"Mhm. I'm so happy! I heard that Joakim was drafted in the NBA, and selected by the Chicago Bulls. He must be so happy, his dream come true. I can't wait to see him and..." Mom continued talking non-stop about him, but it was making me feel sick again. You may wonder why I'm acting this way over the Noah's. But I'm going to have to tell you another time.
