It was still raining from earlier that day. I just sat there on the park bench with the image of Ryan buckled over in my head. I replayed the things Ryan... or whatever had Ryan under it's wing, said to me.
"SO YOU MUST BE RYAN'S BELOVED."
"What was he talking about...?" I whispered to myself.
I didn't feel scared. I didn't feel angry or sad or confused... I just felt... numb. I sat there, shaking with the cold, as it was now nighttime, and the rain soaked through to my skin. It was freezing. So many questions whirled in my head as I sat.
What did he mean "Beloved?" What was that thing? Why did his veins turn blue...? WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!
The tears of panic fell from my eyes. "I don't understand..." I whispered."What don't you understand?" Toby! I turned around and saw my first real friend looking at me from the other side of the bench. Rage filled me and I threw myself at him, knocking him over onto the ground.
"WHY DID YOU TELL HER!? WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" I yelled at him.
"What are you talking about?" He asked calmly.
"YOU TALKED TO RED! YOU SAID KEN AND I TALKED!"
"Yeah, so what? She asked! I'm not going to turn a girl down!"
"Well you should have! They hurt Ken and it's your fault!"
Toby's eyes widened. "They did...?" He asked. "I-I... I had no idea..."
"Yeah, they did." I stood up. "I can see it was unintentional, so I'll let it go. Please don't ever do that again. I still have to see if Ken's okay..."
"I'm so sorry, man. I'll have to apologize to Ken later." He said and started to walk off. I narrowed my eyes and turned around, ready to go home. "Hey... wait..." I heard behind me. "Why are you here?" Toby asked me.
"I guess I could ask you the same thing." I replied. Toby shrugged and walked away again.
When I got home, lots of my posessions were smashed, and Ryan wasn't there. I hadn't seen him on the way home, either. I sighed and stalked off to my room. I needed to end this day.
Ryan started to come over everyday. We'll just play with Rusty first, but we always end up playing video games. I know we're friends, but I'm too scared to bring it up. I'm afraid it will happen again. While I'm weak with my emotions, he's weak minded, and paranoia and insanity can take over easily with people like that, making them unpredictable.
We play a new game everyday, laughing and talking as if we were the closest friends ever. But it still doesn't stop his beatings. He doesn't say anything about them when he comes over, though. They have gotten less... painful... I suppose is the right word. He's lightened up a bit. Not much, but it's noticable. I'm learning things about him, too. He grew up without a father. He also has a cat. He never said its name, though.
We became close. Today, he did something that will forever surprise me...
"Oh, man! That was awesome!" I laughed.
"Yep! We're almost done, too!" Ryan commented. We were playing Super Mario Bros. The first one, and we were on world seven, taking turns back and forth whenever one of us died. It for sure always made my night everynight. "So... I guess you have to go now..." I murmured. He always left at 8:45 P.M. sharp. It was 8:43. "Yep, it probably is about time, isn't it?" He said standing up and streching. I stood up and headed to the front door.
At the front door, Ryan was down three of the five steps before he stopped. He turned back around and walked back up to me.
"Uhh, what is it? Did you forget someth-"
I was cut off by Ryan hugging me. He just... hugged me out of no where. I froze up in surprise at first, but eventually decided to hug back. It felt good. I never got any hugs, so I never wanted to let this one go. But everything has to end. When we pulled away, all I could say was, "Why...?"
"I don't know. I..." Ryan said, very confused, as if he didn't know why he had hugged me.
I hugged him again. It was his turn to freeze. But he hugged back as well. "This is the first actual hug I've ever gotten. And I love it. Thank you." I said.
"I'm in the same boat. I'm in the same boat..." He replied.
And after that he left. I got inside and locked the door. I leaned against is and slid down, taking in what just happened to me. Ryan, the bully of the school, just hugged me. And after that, he let me hug him. Why? No idea. But I like it. Is this what it's like to have a friend...?
