11. Heart

As I slowly gained consciousness I realised that I was still in the glass case, protected in Leo's strong embrace. Falling asleep in Leo's arms while he lightly stroked my head was something I would never forget. My heartbeat was the only sound in the room, slowly beating in the arms of another being.

I rubbed my eyes and felt a gaze upon me. Leo watched intently as I slowly brought myself to a sitting position and yawned widely. I haven't slept that well since I've been in this place. The one who graced my night terrors each night, was the one who made me feel at ease.

"Hi" I whispered, smiling up at Leo.

"I liked that".

"Liked what?" I asked, completely confused by his reply.

Leo placed a hand on the side of my face, gently pushing the loose strands of hair away from my eyes.

"I liked...watching you..dream" he said, moving his eyes from my gaze to my lips.

I slowly bit my lip eager for his lips to meet mine, when I heard a bang on the steel door. I immediately swiveled my body to face the wide window above where Leo and I were sitting, and was greeted by a very angry Ravi, looking back at me through the glass view.

I looked over at Leo, who stayed seated in the corner with his head down. He senses would of picked up Ravi walking down the staircase a while ago, but he chose to not tell me.

Ravi swung open the door and shut it aggressively, making sure all the latches were safely secured.

"What the hell are you thinking ?" He shouted, approaching me and ignored Leo's existence in the room.

"Look, I know this is crazy but nothing happened" I muttered, showing Ravi that I don't have any bruises or injuries.

"He hurt your friend, and you still come back in here ? Why would you be an exception _____-ah ?"

"Its....different. Were different when we are alone" I stuttered, glancing over at Leo, who picked his head up while I spoke.

Ravi let out a deep sigh. "You don't get it." He frowned "Whatever you think you have with him, is not real, he's not built that way".

"Why hasn't he hurt me yet ? Why did he give me the code ? Why did he ask me to stay with him ?" I questioned raising my voice in frustration.

Ravi turned to Leo, an unsure look washing over him.

"Well...I don't know. But remember he is manipulative. This could all be a diversion. All I'm saying is he's never had empathy, he was built without it for a reason...." Ravi's voice trailed off as he swallowed hard.

I felt a pain emerge from my chest. "Your brothers brain is still a part of him, and hey, I'm not the best at this humanoid thing yet, but I know for a fact that a human's cells fused with a droid will result in the humanoid developing the characteristics of that specific human, heart or not!" I shouted, feeling tears begin to well up.

Ravi shifted his eyes between Leo and I nervously. Leo had his hand placed over his chest, looking down deep in thought.

"Look" Ravi finally said, nearing me carefully. "I'll let this 'friendship' slide, for development studies only. Leo is still not allowed to leave this case, and you need to make sure you secure the door at all times. I don't care how much you trust him."

Ravi glared at Leo sternly, as Leo slowly got up and adjusted his movements as he slowly approached us.

I nodded and exhaled deeply, trying to get my thoughts and emotions in order.

"I promise. Just one more favour" I whispered.

"What?"

"Its kind of weird being in an empty room, and...the floor is uncomfortable to sleep on".

Ravi rolled his eyes and scratched the back of his head.

"I'll see what I can do" he muttered and turned to face Leo "I'll still be installing cameras to watch your progress. If something goes wrong, she's not allowed down here ever again."

I watched as Ravi shut the door as he made his exit. His last words lingered in the back of my mind.

As my thoughts span recklessly around my head, I felt a soft touch on my shoulder.

Leo slowly wiped away a trailing tear with his thumb and looked at me with his deep soulful eyes.

"I want to protect you." He said softly "I want to protect you forever".
