"What do you mean brother ?" I couldn't wrap my head around this situation. This man claimed a humanoid was his brother. I nervously looked over at Leo, who now turned his head away from us, with his arms dropped to his sides.
The man hesitated for a second but seemed to trust me a little more after Leo called out my name. He gestured to me and Ken to take a seat as he began telling us what was really going on.
"First of all, My names Ravi, Ive worked at this lab for almost 7yrs now. I specialise in mechanics and engineering, and as I'm sure you've heard, the biggest project is the recreation of man..." His voice shook, as he spoke, reliving his past.
"When the project began, my brother and I were appointed as head of mechanics and it was our job to work on the characteristics of the humanoids, make them intelligent, and compassionate, basically an upgrade from us mere humans. My brother never liked the idea of giving these robots human emotions, he said it would be dangerous for everyone. A human's personality are developed by the relationships and connections they make with other humans. When a human is mistreated..."
"Their emotions become unhealthy and sometimes toxic" I stammered, swallowing hard.
"Exactly" Ravi said sighing heavily. "My brother refused to work on the project and the company wasn't estastic about it. They mocked him, told him he was nothing without them. What would he do? Where would he go? We didn't have a family. We grew up in this establishment. If we didn't do what they said, we would of been thrown out on the streets. I tried to convince my brother everyday to work with me on the humanoids but he wouldn't budge, he stayed true to his word. The mocking and mistreatment just got worse and my brother became severely depressed. He never left his room, he suffered with insomnia and anxiety. The day finally came when the company decided to fire him and throw him out. When they got to his room, they found him dead. He had overdosed on some medication, who knows how long he was lying there, I was disgusted at myself for leaving him in that state."
Ravi took in a deep breath and exhaled, running his fingers through his hair. I could only imagine what his flashbacks were like. It must of been painful.
"I was responsible for my brothers body, and even though I knew his wish was to donate his organs for research purposes, I couldn't part with him. I was so angry at the company. They killed him through their ignorance and I wanted to bring him back. And I did just that." He looked over at Leo, who didn't make eye contact with him.
"I was working on one of the humanoids, and I was still having a tough time, dealing with the loss of my brother. I worked late hours, I drank a lot, I was a mess. One night as I was working, one of the staff members gave me a notice that I couldn't keep Leo in the labs morgue any longer, and I needed to get rid of his body. With my mind not at ease, and revenge surging through my veins, I began working on the humanoid. By using my brothers brain, I fused his tissue and DNA with the humanoid. I molded the humanoid to look exactly like my brother. The humanoid had a human brain, with an advanced system that controlled his movements and actions. He was not like the others, he was smarter, more advanced than any humanoid created. Which meant he was also the most dangerous humanoid ever created. "
I became tense. It became harder to look away from Leo knowing that he was once human. He was just a boy, who took his own life.
"I made a big mistake. I was unaware of my brothers emotional state and subconscious behavior. He was a poisonous person. I didn't know how toxic his thoughts were until it physically showed through Leo. Once all the humanoids were activated, he manipulated them. He made them believe he was their creator, they began tearing apart the Lab. Eventually they disabled the humanoids and destroyed them. Leo was the only reminisce of my family, and I couldn't deactivate him, so I built this" Ravi walked over to the glass case, and ran his hand across it.
"This room is off limits to everyone because of Leo's manipulative ways, he can convince anyone to set him free. He tried it with me for the first couple of weeks until I decided to leave him alone for a few months, and he began learning more about himself. He realised that he was dangerous. He would tell me to never release him. It was around then, I realised my brother's qualities had developed and synced with the artificial brain matter. It was him. Recreated. "
The room became silent. The air was thick and Ravi was lost in his own thoughts. He seemed at ease, sharing his story. I went over to him and lightly touched his shoulder.
"Its going to be okay." I assured him. "I know what its like to lose family and being alone, Leo and Ken have changed that feeling of loneliness." I smiled over at Ken, who blushed slightly.
"I guess I can't keep you away..." Ravi said, still looking anxiously at Leo. "where do we go from here ?"
"I want to meet him" I demanded. "I want to meet him, face to face" I pointed to the door at the back of the glass case.
