"I think I am finally clean"
June 10, 2005
I had always loved the summer. There was a lighter feeling to it, probably related to the sunlight and lack of homework. There was nothing I loved more than lying on the beach absorbing vitamin D with an ice cold drink in hand.
And this year was no different. While I might've changed a fair amount since last summer, this part of me didn't. It was a reminder that even though the world—at times—felt as if it had been turned on its axis, somethings remained stagnant.
"Flip," Grace nudged me. "Your back needs a tan too, babe."
"I'm at peace," I laughed, dropping my magazine onto my towel and turning onto my stomach.
"Me too," she smiled, taking a swig from her can of coke. "The beach, my best friend and my sexy ass boyfriend. What more could a girl want?"
My gaze moved to where Johnny and Gerard were tossing around a rugby ball. Gerard was shirtless—which was more than fine by me—and had sunglasses covering his grey eyes.
He gave me a cheeky grin when he noticed I was watching him, the ball soaring past him and landing in the sand.
"Hey, eejit, eyes off my sister," Johnny yelled, glaring at Gerard.
"Shut up, Johnny!" I rolled my eyes.
"She's not your sister. She's my girlfriend," he fired back. "And I can look all I want."
"Yes, you can," I smiled, watching my boyfriend jog towards me.
I'd never get tired of hearing him call me his girlfriend. It just felt so right. Like even if everything went to shit, or everything turned wrong—that would continue to be the right thing.
He was right for me.
"Leave them be, Johnny," Grace smirked at my brother, who was now following after Gerard.
"Alright, baby, my lips are sealed," he stood above Grace.
"It's about time," she looked up at him with a cheeky grin on her face.
He laughed, hooking his arms beneath hers and throwing her over his shoulder, "you'll regret that, Gracie."
"Anything that starts with me over your shoulder is bound to be good," Grace giggled as Johnny began walking them towards the ocean.
Tearing my attention away from them, I looked back to Gerard who was dropping down on the towel next to mine.
"Can I say, you in that bikini is driving me wild," he brushed a piece of my hair behind my ear. "You look phenomenal in white."
I felt my cheeks flush, giving me what I hoped looked like a sun kissed glow, "and you look phenomenal with no shirt on."
He grinned, settling onto his stomach next to me. I turned my face to look at him, my heart thudding in my chest. It was crazy to me, that after all this time he still made my heart soar to life with one look.
