"I remember it all too well."
June 1, 2005
"I feel terrible, Grace," I groaned, rolling onto my side.
We were lying on our backs, staring into the cloudless blue sky. The grass from the field in my backyard, was tickling the bare skin of my arms and legs, bringing me a sense of peace.
The sunshine beaming down on me only heightening the golden locks of my hair and the flecks of gold in Graces eyes.
"I know you do," she nodded. "And that's what makes you Addy, you care about other people."
"I'm a home wrecker!" I wailed, scrubbing my face with my hands, "and I like Claire! She's a sweet girl and I go and do that."
"You can't help who you love, Ads," she grabbed my hand. "You might've done a questionable thing, but you aren't the first person to do that. People do way worse things and life goes on."
"Thank you," I breathed. "I needed that, I'm sort of losing my head over here."
"Don't worry, babe," she laughed. "I've got your back, even if Claire decides to throw eggs at you."
"Why eggs?" I closed my eyes, shielding them from the sun.
"I don't know," she shrugged. "It just felt right."
When a shadow cast across my face, I squinted my eyes open. My heart slammed against my ribs when they focused on the face of Gerard Gibson.
"Hi," he gave me a half-grin, as he stared down at me.
"Hi," I croaked out, a blush creeping across my cheeks.
Gerard looked to Grace, "can I steal her for a minute?"
"Yep," Grace pushed herself to her feet. "I've got things to do. One of them being your brother." She blew me a kiss.
"Grace!" I gaped.
"I'm kidding," she laughed, "or not." Her laughter followed her as she headed towards my house.
Gerard took her spot, lying back beside me, his grey eyes meeting mine. A breeze passed over us, making me scoot a little closer to him, our shoulders now touching.
There were so many things I wanted to say, too many to ever get out.
"I broke up with Claire," he informed me, his head turned so that he could look me in the eyes.
Thank God.
"Oh," I breathed. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," he shrugged. "It was bound to happen. I sort of have feelings for someone else."
I bit back a smile, our fingers grazing each others, "really? I couldn't have guessed that." I turned my head, my eyes meeting the blue sky, "did you tell her? About the kiss?"
He inhaled a deep breath, "yeah. She was obviously hurt, but we both decided it was for the better."
"I feel terrible," I frowned. "I'd never want to get in between two people, I hope I didn't sway your choice." I turned back to meet his eyes.
