Today had been a shit show. That was somewhat expected, considering the dynamics in our friend group. It was almost bound to happen.

Everyone had finally calmed down, each of us settling into comfortable chatter as the fire roared and drinks were passed around.

Johnny and Grace were missing as they both coincidentally 'needed some air'. Katie and Hughie were in deep conversation with Patrick, Declan and Shannon were cuddled up whispering in each other's ears, Lizzie and Claire were hugging—an obvious reconciliation occurring—while Addy stared into the fire.

Her brows were furrowed and she looked deep in thought. After what happened earlier, I couldn't blame her. I felt completely lost in thought myself.

She didn't think before comforting me, she bolted right for me, held my face in her hands and felt my terror. Right in front of my girlfriend. It fucked with my head, she fucked with my head.

"I have to..." Addy shot off of her camping chair. "I'm going on a walk."

"Are you going to be okay alone?" Declan paused his conversation with Shannon to look at his sister. "Do you want us to come?"

"No," she shook her head, pulling down the sleeves of her baby pink cardigan. "I'll be okay."

"I have my phone on, call me if you need anything," he urged in his best big brother tone.

"I will," she rolled her eyes before heading into the darkness.

I leaned back in my chair, while every cell in my body begged me to go after her. I silently weighed my options: let her go into a dark forest by herself or follow her and end up arguing.

Deciding the latter was probably a better option, I downed the rest of my beer and stood up. Everyone was still engaged in their respective conversations, so I mumbled a quick, "bathroom break." And walked in the direction Addy had gone.

I didn't bother to look back and see if anyone had made a comment, I headed straight for the bundle of blonde hair perched on a log.

"For fucks sake, Gerard," she jumped when I came into view. "You scared the shit out of me."

"Sorry," I shrugged. "I couldn't exactly let you walk alone in the woods at night."

"I'll be fine," she sighed. "You can go back to your girlfriend now."

"Look, Ads," I took a seat beside her. "I don't want any bad blood between us. We don't have to be friends but could we at least be cordial?"

"We are cordial," she mumbled. "Sorry if you thought otherwise."

"That wasn't a very cordial response," I nudged her shoulder with mine.
