~Koko~
I fidgeted in my seat non-stop as I glanced at all the other contestants. Everyone look just as nervous as I did. Some bit their nails, some bounced their knees, and others were just mumbling to themselves. That was a small comfort though, knowing that I wasn't the only one anxious about performing.
Four people walked in from the side door and sat in four reserved seats in the front row. Two were women, two were men. "I bet those are the judges," I whispered to the girls, earning nods of agreement. They were very quiet about their entrance, so it made me wonder if many other people noticed.
CJ cleared his throat to draw everyone's attention and pulled out a white notecard from his breast pocket. He looked at it for a moment before grinning.
"And the first group to perform is....," he paused for a moment to look around the audience, creating an air of anxiety amongst everyone, "Downtown Sun!"
A group of teens near the stage stood up slowly and made their way down their row. I could tell just by watching them that they were extremely nervous. One boy was fidgeting with the strap of his guitar case as he walked with his group and another ran his hand through his hair several times before they even got past the last seat. The girl looked fairly composed, that is until I squinted my eyes and saw she was shaking. 'I wonder if the girls and I will look like that when it's our turn' I couldn't help but wonder.
As 'Downtown Sun' made their way to the middle of the stage, CJ walked off the opposite side and took a seat next to the four judges. "Begin when you're ready!" CJ called up. The group nodded and wasted no time in setting up their guitars and getting situated on the drums. The fidgeting boy and the girl played guitar while the last boy was on the drums.
The drummer counted off, and the band began to play. The familiar tune of 'Cool Kids' rang out throughout the auditorium and I couldn't help but smile to myself. I really enjoyed this song and began to subconsciously hum the tune along with the band. It wasn't until Bella jabbed my side with her elbow that I realized what I was doing.
"Hey, shut the fuck the up, I can't hear!" She whispered yelled, her eyes still glued to the stage. I rolled my eyes and heaved a sigh, but did as she asked. I reluctantly quieted down and rested my head on my hand after setting my elbow on the arm of my seat.
The band soon finished up and everyone politely clapped as they exited the stage. There were mixed feelings about them throughout the audience. I overheard some groups harshly criticizing them, while others were overly complementary. Either way, they weren't terrible. Maybe a little bland, but not horrible.
CJ jogged back up to the microphone and pulled out the same notecard from before. "Up next is.... 5 Seconds of Summer!" He announced. The auditorium clapped as a group of four boys stood up. They were too far away to make out any details, but the name sounded familiar. I turned my head to address the other girls.
"Does that name sound familiar to you guys?" I asked as I racked my brain for why it was so familiar.
They all thought for a moment before Bella snapped her fingers. "Wasn't that the band that hot drummer was in? What's-his-face?" She winked at me and I immediately remembered whom she was referring to.
"Oh, A-Ashton, yea I remember now," I stuttered slightly as my cheeks heated up at the thought of him. Great, haven't even been here a day and I've developed a crush!
Unfortunately, Lee noticed my stutter and smirked evilly. "Oooooooh, she's crushing! Guys, Koko's crushing!" She whooped as she hit Kenna and Bella's arms. I scrambled over Bella to slap a hand over her mouth.
"Why don't you say that just a little louder, you chicken shit!" Bad choice of words on my part.
Lee took a deep breath and was just about to yell when all three of us basically tackled her.
"I would REALLY like to not be embarrassed by you today," Kenna snapped before she slowly sat back in her seat.
"Yea, I have to agree. Sorry boo," Bella giggled as she sat down as well, but I stayed on top of her.
I gave Lee the most evil stare I could manage as I hissed, "You better not say a damn word or I swear, I will gut you and make you eat your own entrails then throw you in a wood shredder, gather up all your pieces and feed them to the fish!"
Lee stared at me with wide eyes before whispering, "Yes, ma'am."
I smirked and got off of Lee, settling back in my seat just as the band began to play. Kenna was the first to recognize the song and quickly informed us it was 'Teenage Dirtbag.' I snorted at the title, but listened intently nonetheless.
A tall blonde guy playing a guitar and an asian looking boy playing the bass seemed to sing the most. As I studied their faces as best I could from where we were sitting, I got a strange sense of deja-vu (the irony), like I had seen them before or something. I shrugged it off as nothing and bobbed my head to the beat of the song.
"I'm just a Teenage Dirtbag, baby!"
Bella snorted. "Damn right," she mumbled under her breath and I quickly slapped my hand over my mouth to hide my giggles. Bella noticed and winked before making a funny face. I slapped her arm and turned my attention, yet again, to 5 Seconds of Summer.
They were pretty good, but could definitely use some work, I thought as I watched the four boys play together. My attention focused on Ashton momentarily as I watched him drum away, unaware of the steady blush settling on my cheeks. When I finally noticed, I thanked god that the lights in the audience were off so the girls didn't notice it. They would've never let that go.
The band finished and they boys walked off stage to their seats that weren't very far from the stage. CJ bounded up to the stage yet again and didn't waste any time in announcing the next band. I wish he did though, I don't think my heart was prepared for the announcement.
"Next is Deja-Vu!"
A/N: Lol, first authors note >3< sorry the chapter is shorter and it took so long to get out. My only excuse is that I'm unbearably lazy ^3^ Also, sorry for spelling or grammar mistakes thus far, I haven't gone back and double checked anything yet.
