                                                         A New Family - Chapter 19

"Everybody, I would like to announce something," my mom started saying as everybody sat down in the living room,"I've been with somebody for roughly a month, and I would like all of you to meet him."

A man walked into the living room.  He looked like a regular man in his 30's.  He was wearing worn jeans, a red flannel shirt, and he had a tattoo on his right arm.  He had reddish brown hair that had a little curl.  "My name is Jay,"  he said in a low voice.

My mom grabbed Lynn, and I.  "This is my son, Brad, and my daughter, Lynn,"  my introduced us.

Two blonde girls walked in the room.  One looked around my age, and one looked around Lynn's age.  "This is Keira and Leila,"  Jay informed us.

"I'm Keira, and I'm sixteen years old,"  the tall blonde girl said.  She was wearing jeans, a floral peach top, and her blonde hair was wavy, almost curly.

"I'm Leila, and I'm four,"  the little blonde girl said quietly.  She was wearing a pink skirt, a pink blouse, and her hair was the same as Keira's hair.

It took me a little while to comprehend this.  I had no idea my mom was dating anybody.  But over all, I was happy for her because she deserved somebody.

"Brad?"  my mom's voice said like I was supposed to say something.

"Oh, sorry, I'm Brad, and I'm also sixteen years old,"  I stumbled over my words.

"I'm Wynn, and I awso fouw,"  Lynn's voice tried to say.

After everybody knew eachother, all the teenagers started heading out to the creek.  Justin, Levi, Sierra, Keira, Alli, and I all started walking to the creek.  Everybody was laughing, and it seemed like Sierra was becoming friends with Keira.  I walked with my hands shoved in my pockets.  There was a slight breeze, but it felt good.

"Wow, that's so weird!"  Keira's high-pitched voice giggled.

"That's what I thought!"  Sierra laughed with Keira.

I just kept to myself.  I didn't know what I felt.  I didn't feel happy, or completely sad.  I wasn't mad.  I didn't know what I felt, but I felt kind of sad.  I guess just looking back at my whole life like a summery of a movie always sliced at my mind.  I think I also felt like I hadn't ever had close friends.  I was always 'cool' at school, but I just never had close friends.  Only Alli and Sierra.

"What's wrong?"  Alli appeared next to me.

"I don't know,"  I replied saying the truth.

Alli didn't say anything else.  She just looked at me.

After what seemed like a decade, we arrived at the creek.  I sat down on a rock, and drew in the sand with a stick.  I wrote 'I Love You' because I thought of Sierra.  I looked at Sierra laughing, and having fun with Keira.  I decided that I should get up, and join the fun instead of moping around.  I got up, and walked into the creek.  The water was cold, but I didn't care. I looked at Keira, Sierra, and Alli talking while they stood by the creek.  I snuck up behind them, and splashed water over all three of them.

"BRAD!"  Sierra screamed as the cold water trickled down her body.

"THAT'S FREEZING!"  Alli screamed as well.

Keira just screamed, she didn't say anything.

"Is it cold?"  I asked with a sly smile printed across my face.

"YES!"  Sierra shouted.

"YES!"  Alli shouted after Sierra.

Again, Keira said nothing.

"Well I should know, I'm the one in the water!"  I replied.

After a litte while, we started heading back to the house.  I wondered why Keira said nothing to me.  After all, our parents were dating.  She should have talked to me.  I grabbed Sierra's arm, tugging her away from Keira and Alli.

"What?"  Sierra asked.

"Why didn't Keira say a word to me, but then she talked to you nonstop?"  I asked quietly so Keira couldn't hear.

"Oh..."  Sierra trailed off like there was a secret.

"Tell me,"  I pleaded.

Sierra dragged me away from everybody else.  "You can't tell anybody, but Keira doesn't like to talk to knew people."

"Why?"

"Sometimes she struggles with her words because she studders, and she also has dyslexia."

"Then, why was she talking to you?  You didn't know her before, did you?"

"No, but I started asking her questions and I could tell she struggled.  Keira told me that she studders, and that she has dyslexia.  She doesn't normally talk a lot because she's too embarressed.  She said she's had speech almost all her life, and she's gotten teased about it before."

"Oh."

"Yeah, and you should try talking to her.  It might boost her convidence."

"Okay."
