I almost fell over but Gabbe held me steady. I stared at Xavier like he didn't exist. He was an Angel. Angel only existed in make believe teen age novels, not in real life. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. Suddenly the light disappeared but the wings stayed. They were extremely detailed and yet they looked like the wind could crumple and shatter them. I stared at Xavier with my mouth wide open.

"Gabbe, it's good. You can go now" he said.

She nodded. "Good luck" she said to me.

She walked back to the school building. I turned to Xavier.

"Macie, you don't have to be scared. I'm a friend" he said.

"What are you talking about? And how did you make those wings? Are they for a costume party?"

He laughed. "No, they're real. I can prove that much to you."

Suddenly he was right in front of me. He stared into my eyes as he wrapped my arms around his neck. He held my waist and then my feet weren't on the ground anymore. The wings were beating like a birds as they lifted us both into the sky. My eyes were locked on Xaviers the whole time. The wind ruffled his hair and made him look so much cuter.

"Who are you?" I whispered.

"I'm Xavier, you know that."

"What are you then?"

"I'm an Angel. Isn't that obvious?" he asked.

"Angels aren't real."

"Then how do you explain the flying?"

I just couldn't wrap my head around any of this. Xavier lifted my chin to meet his eyes.

"Macie, just trust me. I won't let anything happen to you" he said.

"Why do I have to worry about anything happening to me?"

"You don't, I just wanted you to know it. Do you have to ask so many question?"

"Yeah, I just met an Angel and I don't have any questions. I understand it fully" I said sarcastically.

My feet touched the ground and Xavier let go of my waist and I stepped back. He smiled at me.

"So when Mr Peters says a whole heap of stuff that doesn't make sense, just keep an open mind about it."

We got back to class and sat back down. Mr Peters came over.

"You two are paired up. And Miss Adams, if there's another incident, you will no longer be in my class" he said.

He walked away and I looked at Xavier.

"So, what are we doing?" I asked.

"We're going to try and find your gift."

"Unless you never noticed, I'm not an Angel. I don't have a gift."

"You do Macie. Here look at this" he said.

He pulled a silver knife from his pocket and cut his wrist. Blood started pouring out of it.

"Oh my god, Xavier" I said.

He pushed my hands away and held his other hand over his wrist. He closed his eyes and opened them. Then he pulled his hand away. There was no cut.

"How did you do that?"

"It's my gift, I'm a healer" he said.

"Oh."

"I can also read minds."

"What am I thinking?" I asked.

"I'd love to know but I can't read you."

"Why not?"

"Because you're not an Angel" he said.

"So, you can only read Angels?"

"No, I can read Angels and humans."

"Then why can't you read me?" I asked.

"I wish I could tell you but I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because I just can't. I really wish I could tell you more" he said.

"Yeah, so do I."

Just then the bell went. I got up and left the class room. I went around the corner to go to my room. I ran into someone and lost my footing. I was about to fall but a strong hand grabbed my arm and steadied me. I looked up. A guy was standing there. He had bright blue eyes and sandy blonde hair. He smiled at me and my heart skipped a beat. God, this guy really affected me. I felt a little dizzy which sounded completely stupid.

"Hey, are you ok?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Ok, what's your name?"

"I'm Macie Adams" I said.

"It's nice to meet you Macie Adams. It's not very often one sees a beautiful girl around here."

"I'm not beautiful compared to some of the Angels here, I mean they are like flawless and everything and I'm just..."

I stopped. I was rambling. He smiled at me.

"Your different, that's what makes you beautiful Macie. I'm Jake by the way" he said.

"Jake."

"Yes, that's me. Are you sure you're alright?"

"I'm fine, I should go" I said.

"Ok, I should too."

"Ok."

"See you around" he said.

"Yep, bye."

I kept walking and got to my room. I collapsed on my bed with my head stuffed in the pillow. Why was I like that around that guy? And why did Xavier seem so protective over me? I had so many questions running through my head.

I realised that I had fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes it was dark. I'd missed the rest of my class and I bet Mr Peters would have something to say about it tomorrow. I grabbed my pjs and bathroom bag and went to the shower room. I turned the water on and got under. When I was done I got dressed and went back to my room. Not surprisingly I didn't feel tired. I decided to go for a walk. I pulled a jacket over my head and went outside. I sat down under the tree Xavier and I had been at before. It was pitch black outside but the lights from the school light up most of the school grounds. In the shadows I saw a figure. Then I saw a face. It was a guy. He looked hopeless and sad. His hair was short and his eyes were dark brown with a ring of black around them. He was wearing a dark jacket.

"Who are you?" I asked.

He suddenly disappeared. Feeling a little creeped out I went back into my room. I locked the door and pulled the cover over me. I laid in bed thinking about everything that had happened over the last couple of days. But the main thing running through my mind was the guy I'd seen outside.
