The next morning I woke up early and got ready. I pulled on a pair of jeans and my favourite hoodie. Just as I opened the door I saw Xavier standing there. He smiled at me and I smiled back. 

"Don't have to wake me up today" I said. 

"Already an improvement. Are you ready for today?" 

"I dunno, what's today?" 

"We're going to discover your gift" he said. 

"I don't even know why we're bothering, I mean, I'm not an Angel. I don't have a gift." 

"You do Macie, we just have to find it."

There was no point even going to the class room. As soon as we got there Mr Peters sent us out of the classroom to work in our pairs. Xavier and I went outside onto a table. He sat down across from me and looked into my eyes. 

"Now, I'm going to try to read you but I couldn't before but maybe physical contact will help. Now give me your hands" he said. 

I put the on the table and he held them. He closed his eyes and concentrated. A few minutes later the wind blew up around my hair. Xavier's eyes snapped open. 

"What is it?" I asked. 

"Your gift was hard to read because I barely ever read it in Angels. It's a really rare one." 

"What is it?" 

"Your gift is protection" he said. 

"Protection?" 

"It's why I found you so hard to read. Your mind is like a shield, but you also have the power to expand your shield so you can shield others. I've only ever seen it in one other Angel." 

"So, it's a good gift then?" I asked. 

"Yes, if you choose to use if correctly." 

Just then Jake came over. He sat down next to me and sling his arm over my shoulder. 

"Hey guys, whatcha doing?" he asked. 

"Jake, you shouldn't be here." 

"Why not? I can hang with my homegirl if I want to." 

"We're busy doing work, something you don't know about" Xavier replied. 

"Lighten up, it's not the end of the world if you bludge classes every now and then. Besides, I see Macie as a fun kinda gal, not a boring nerd like yourself Xav." 

"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom. You guys can argue over this by yourself" I said. 

I got up and walked back to the building. I ran into Gabbe and Cas. 

"Hey Macie" Cas said. 

"Hey, thank god I found you guys. Xav and Jake are having a go at each other." 

"Over what?" 

"Me I guess" I said. 

"Oh god, better go sort this out."

I followed them back outside. I was surprised to see Xavier and Jake weren't speaking. Xavier was flicking through a book and Jake was on his phone.

"What are you guys doing?" Cas asked.

"I was waiting for Macie to get back so we can finish our session" Xav said.

"Hey Xav, is it alright if we just give it up for the day. I mean it's been a long day and there's been a lot to take in" I said.
