"Good morning Miss Nicole, we got good news and bad news about the results..."
I was slowly picking through the fruit bowl on the hospital bed as the nurse spoke.
"Good news is, is that the leukemia is almost completely out of your body; Bad news is that you are going to need another blood marrow transplant in order for that to happen..."
I took a long deep sigh and gently stabbed a strawberry onto my plastic fork. I sat and stared at the hospital room as I took in the news that was given to me. I looked at my mom who was sitting in the guest chair right beside me and gave her a slight smile. She smiled right back at me with tears forming in her perfect emerald eyes.
"When will the surgery take place?" I questioned the nurse.
"Whatever time is most convenient for you and your mother..."
I glanced at my mom and she looked at the nurse.
"How about tomorrow morning?"
The nurse glanced at her mini iPad (used to contact other doctors and to also schedule appointments.) and rose her perfectly trimmed eyebrows.
"Hmm... Looks like we are all booked tomorrow. But there is an opening at 4 o'clock today if you ladies are anxious for Nicole to be cancer free!"
My mom stared at me and I stared at her.
"Ok we will see you at 4 o'clock." The nurse smiled and walked off into the hospital hallway. My mom and I were both lost in thought as the noise from the nurses heels faded into the sound of other doctors passing by.
All I could think about was being cancer free. I wanted to defeat the same disease that took my dads life 6 months ago.
