I almost had a heart attack when I saw Olivia and Clarisse outside my house.
I was just making my way back home when I saw a car parked outside, what worried me the most was that it wasn't Dad's noisy car.
"Hello," Olivia smiled kindly. Clarisse stood behind her, almost afraid.
"Hi."
"Look, Elisa. We just wanted to talk about...what happened in the girl's bathroom," Clarissa spoke gently.
"What's there to talk about?"
"We wanted to explain-"
"You don't want to be simply best friends."
I was freaking out. Mom and Dad could start screaming at each other at any moment, Olivia and Clarisse had enough to worry about. I didn't want to become one of their worries.
"Yes," Clarisse sighed before continuing,"But you deserve an explanation for - well, everything."
I thought back on what had happened in the hallways. I couln't mention it to them.
They would worry even more.
"Okay. How does a coffee shop sound?"
They liked the idea.
I did too.
Olivia drove us to the little coffee shop on the other side of town.
It was a nice shop. Very cozy.
I went back to freaking out when Olivia and Clarissa ordered and asked if I wasn't going to order anything.
I could tell them the truth - I had no money. Or I could lie and tell them I forgot to bring money.
I didn't lie or tell the truth.
I told them I would pass.
"First of all, thank you for not telling anybody. It really means a lot," Olivia started,"But before we tell you our reasons I wanted to hear yours."
Why didn't I tell anybody?
Maybe because I simply had no one to tell, I doubt rocker Charly and funny Andy cared about gossip. Maybe pretty Penelope cared, but maybe she really didn't.
My friends could care less.
"It didn't seem right to. I wouldn't want a strange kid telling everyone about my secret. So the strange kid kept yours with her."
That drew a smile on their faces.
I was happy it did.
Oilvia told me their story, Clarissa ocasionally adding comments about the details she missed. There wasn't much to explain, really.
The went to a party (not a surprise), got drunk (illegaly, of course) not enough to know the other one wasn't as they thought. They confessed and kissed.
"And get kept it a secret from everyone, especially Josh and Dante."
I remembered something.
"Does anyone else know?"
Sean Hayes.
They shared a look and then turned back to me with a no.
"Okay."
That meant two things. Either Sean saw them and the girls didn't, or Sean was lying to Josh and Dante.
Or it can also be none.
