You are all I've ever wanted to be. You are my dream. You are my nightmare.

Growing up, I wanted to be just like you.

Growing older, I knew it was nothing I could be.

You were the woman who gave me life.

You were the woman who gave me emotions.

You were the woman who gave me a face.

You were the woman who gave me a thought.

You were the woman who broke my heart.

You were the woman who gave me away.

And every day

I wish to forgive you.

And every day

I know I can't.

The days pass on.

Each day you become a memory

That painfully gets jerked to the front of my mind.

Where I cannot push you back.

The days pass on.

Every day I wonder.

Every day I breathe because you gave me breath.

Every day my breath gets drawn short.

With the remembrance that you gave me away.

I'd like to tell you I'm fine now.

That because I grew older

I gained knowledge and became a more logical person,

Understanding why you gave me away.

I'd like to tell you

That I no longer dream of you and the life we could have lived together side by side.

I'd like to tell you these things.

But I'd be lying.

And I'm sorry

But I must not tell lies

Lying is not how my mother raised me.

Though you are the woman who gave me life,

She was the woman who taught me to live.

Though you were the woman who gave me emotions

She was the woman who taught me what they meant.

Though you were the woman who gave me a face,

She was the woman who taught me how to smile.

Though you were the woman who gave me thought,

She was the woman who taught me how to think.

And though I love you,

And though I love her,

I am not the product of hereditary means or environment.

I am the product of both.
