The second week of training just ended when Red, a red winged fox, ran into me as I landed. "Damn Red, slow...calm...ugh, stop. What the hell is the matter?" The fox just whined. I looked up and, coming from the same direction Red had, female were-shifters were flying down. They were none like any shifters I've ever seen. They looked very pissed off. As each landed, they colded their wings in. The leader looking one stared straight in my eyes. I realized then that her eyes were entirely black. As were the others when I looked around. "Boy, where is your leader?" The leader one asked. I looked at her and stunned in silence, I pointed towards the black-house. She walked calmly up to me and grabbed my left wing at the top. I hissed in pain. She dragged me to the black house along with her group. She threw me to the ground and spoke something in a language which I've never heard. I stood, shook my wings, and folded them in. Sergent Wolfe walked out and stiffened. The female stopped talking and looked at Wolfe. She stuttered as she spoke to him. "L...Lucas? Yo....you're the l..leader of this rabble?" He didn't answer but stared in her eyes. After what felt like hours, she turned and took off, the group following behind. I watched as they disappeared into the clouds. Wow, I guess they like water or something to go through the clouds. Sergent Wolfe looked at me and beckoned me inside. I followed him into the building. The first sentence was not what I'd expected. "Do you know who she is?" I thought for a second, "No, sir." He nodded and turned finding The Book of Winged Secrets. "Here, read this." I took it from his outstretched hands. He waved me away. I put the book in the side pocket of my combat jeans, seeing it was small enough to. I walked out and saw that Red had left and those I was training with had retired to dinner. Though, I did see Arrow off to the side. I walked towards him. "Ready to join everyone else in the mess hall, Blue?" I nodded and spoke, "Arrow, you know, I still don't understand why you call me Blue. Why do you?" He looked at me and smiled slightly. "Your eyes are bright blue when your wings are folded and when they're out, the wings are dark blue. That's why." I nodded an 'ok' and turned to open the mess hall door. When I opened it, I was trampled over by a young, black winged boy. Before he could run off, I grabbed his wing and he screeched. "Oh, shut it, boy. What the hell were doing in the mess hall?" He looked at me with frightened eyes, the color of the deepest, darkest abyss. I let go of his wing, startled. As soon as I did, he flew off. I watched him until I could no longer see him and walked into the hall. As I walked in, the lights flipped on. My eyes quickly adjusted to the bright light. As they did, I noticed that nearly everyone was there. What is everyone doing here? I wonder. Arrow walked up beside me and said, "Surprise!" I looked at him questioningly. He noticed the look and decided to answer the question I had at the tip of my tongue. "You're getting promoted and sent out. We were all told and wanted to surprise you with the news. We told Sergeant Wolfe to not tell you." I wasn't too shocked really, I'd expected it. What'd really surprised me was the timing.
