The Unseen Dancer: Anupamaa's Story

A lot of you have been reaching out with thoughtful messages, and one recurring question I've received (in different words, but with the same heart) is this:

"What is the trajectory of your story? Is it about Anupamaa's complete journey — as a woman, mother, daughter, and individual — carving her own path, gaining financial independence, reclaiming her place in her children's lives, and standing tall on her own? Or is it primarily a love story where Anupamaa exists mostly as a romantic partner to Anuj, with everyone else positioned as a villain in her life?"

To answer your question, my story's trajectory is very much rooted in the first kind of arc you mentioned.

I'm really glad you took the time to read my fan-fiction and share your reflections so honestly. It means a lot as a writer when readers engage so deeply with the characters and their journeys.

For me, Anupamaa is not just a lover or a romantic interest — she is, and always will be, a complete universe in herself. Her growth as a woman, a mother, an individual with dreams, dignity, and agency is at the heart of what I'm trying to write. If love comes her way, it should enhance her journey, not define it.

You beautifully pointed out how different the story feels when the focus is on Anupamaa owning her space — doing Samar's wedding on her own, being a respected parent, gaining financial independence, walking her own dance journey — and that is the soul I want to preserve. I want to explore that version of Anupamaa who is strong even in solitude, who may fall in love, but never at the cost of losing herself.

I completely understand why the second kind of story — where the woman seems reduced to a lover or supporter of a male character — feels limiting (trust me i love anuj as much as anybody else). That's not the story I wish to tell either.
