Several sweat-filled hours later, I decided that I needed a break. Pan had been guiding me mercilessly through the forest for a while. He didn't turn back once and I could count in one hand the amount of words he had uttered. I laid back on the first big, mossy rock I saw and waited to see if Pan noticed at all.

He did.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he said, approaching me.

"Taking a break," I retorted, "and thinking of the rest of the people we left back there." I added. I was still mulling over the possibility of them being eaten by a fearful creature that appeared in the movies. I should have gone back for them, I thought guiltily as I waited for his response.

"They have Jefferson, they're FINE," Pan said. Was it just me or was he trying to reassure me? I decided not to bring this to his attention, replaying what had happened earlier. I didn't answer, instead shielding my eyes from the sun with my forearm. A couple seconds later, I felt the slightest graze of Pan's arm against my own, which sent shivers through my body. I quickly glanced from under my forearm to my side, where I saw his closed eyes and his gentle intakes of air. He could be asleep for all I knew, except it had only been a couple minutes since he joined me.

"What?" I quickly turned my head away, knowing that id been caught staring and felt my already rosy cheeks becoming even pinker with the blush that was taking over my face.

"I was just thinking how much better you are when you're quiet," I replied haughtily, playing it off cool and ignoring the butterflies inside my stomach.

"It's time to go," Pan said, ignoring my comment. I groaned and got off from the boulder.

"If we must," I said, taking on a crappy English accent. He cast a warning gaze towards me and I could see a microscopic twitch of his lips as if trying to conceal a smile. However, against my will, I knew that I should be quiet. At least until I learned the whole magic thing.

...

Pan's POV:

"Let's stop here," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"About damn time," I heard her mutter under her breath, her words resonating through my head. This wasn't like me at all. The key to all of what's mine is in the clutch of someone else and my mind was clouded over by her? She's just an obstacle to get through, I reminded myself. Get her back to Zelena and you'll get your shadow back.

So then why did I have to restrain myself from looking at her? Why was I remorseful when I did something to her? She was a nobody, and yet, she was slowly poisoning my every thought. I couldn't talk to her without thinking about the unthinkable. I was Peter Pan, for God's sake, and Peter Pan couldn't love. He was a monster, I am a monster; and a heartless one at that. So why? Why now? Why her? Why-

"Where do you want the fire?" she interrupted my thoughts. I took a deep breath and turned to face her.

"Wherever's fine."

"Wow, you're giving me a choice. How generous," Ana replied, her icy tone making me shiver. Focus, Pan, focus!

I heard the fire crackling behind me, and headed towards it, seeking its warmth. Memories from Neverland began seeping into my brain. I wonder how Felix is doing... I looked up and saw that Ana had gone to sleep. I sighed and turned back to the fire, preparing for another sleepless night.
