Chapter 2:
Islendia POV
I woke up to the sound of soft footsteps. "Mom" I thought with a smile.
" I made you a dress to wear to the council.", she spoke.
"Thanks Mom." I replied but I hadn't seen the dress yet, I was still tired.
"I'll leave you to dress," she said in her soft voice. I walked over to my closet as she left. I opened it to see a gorgeous dress. It was a light blue, which made my eyes stand out. It had a brown leather belt, with pink flowers woven into it.
I slipped into it, then loosely braided my honey brown hair. A sudden rap at the door caused me to turn.
"The council starts in seven minutes my lady." said my Grandfather Elrond's assistant Lindir.
"Thank you Lindir, I shall leave now." He bowed, and left. I checked my reflection in my mirror, then exited my room. As I walked down the hallway, I bumped into a tall figure. I stepped back alarmed.
"Pardon me Lady Islendia, I didn't mean to startle you." A blond elf stood before me. I had to admit, he was handsome.
"There's no need for 'Lady' I much prefer Islendia thank you. May I ask you your name?"
"Legolas.. Son of Thranduil. Prince of Mirkwood." He said smiling deeply. Yep, definitely my type.
"I assume you're heading to the council? Since you don't live in Rivendell that is..." I asked.
"I am."
"Good. We can walk together."
We walked along the halls, making small talk as we went. Legolas entered the room first, being greeted by my father.
Huh. I guess they know each other. I took a seat next to my dad. I looked around to see Dwarves, Men, and more Elves. I noticed that Gandalf the Gray had came, next to him sat... A Hobbit?
"What is a woman doing at this council?" A reddish-brown haired man sneered, emphasizing 'woman'. Honesty, I don't have the patience to deal with this rubbish.
"I'm Lady Islendia, and I have just as much right to be at this council as you!" I shot back. The man sat back with a huff. I was careful not to mention my father's name, knowing how he liked to keep a low profile.
I snapped my attention back to my grandfather, who just had begun to speak.
"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old, you've been summoned to answer the threat of Mordor..." As he continued talking, I snuck a look at the man who insulted me. He was still glaring at me. Well then...
"Bring forth The Ring, Frodo." Lord Elrond finished. I looked at the little hobbit, who stood up, hesitantly walked towards the podium.
Oh that's what the little munchkin's name was. He was an adorable little thing.
He removed a simple gold band from his pocket, and instantly I went into a trance. I couldn't look away, for I could almost feel it whispering my name.
Frodo placed The Ring on the marble podium, and walked back to his seat.
"The One Ring." I whispered, almost choking on my words.
My father shot me a glance, confusion dancing in his eyes. He discreetly pinched my arm, and I whipped my head towards him.
"What in Middle Earth was was that for?!" I hissed.
He simply brought his attention back to the council.
"So it is true..." The reddish-brown haired man said.
I saw everyone staring at it, including Legolas.
The man with red-brown hair that hated me hesitantly stood up.
"In a dream..." He began."I saw the eastern sky grow dark...but in the West a pale light stayed. A voice cryed: Your doom is near at hand...Isildur's bane has been found."
He walked closer to the table. My grandfather, Gandalf, and my father began to grow tense.
"Isildurs's Bane.." He muttered, his hand reaching out.
"Boromir!" Lord Elrond snapped.
Ah, Boromir, my hater. Tsk tsk stupid one. Gandalf began to chant in the language of Mordor and everyone flinched. Boromir drew back from the ring.
"Never has the language of Mordor have been uttered here in Imladris. Elrond muttered. Gandalf shot back a few words, finishing:
"The Ring is altogether evil!" Emphasizing the last word.
Boromir started gabbing about how the ring should go to Gondor and how they deserved it.
My father spoke up," you cannot wield it. None of us can! The ring answers to Sauron alone, it has no other master!"
" And what would a ranger know of this matter?" Boromir growled.
Legolas stood up. "This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn... Son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance."
Oh dear. Thanks for the input, it was lovely.
"Aragorn? This... Is Isiludur'a heir?" Boromir gasped. I noticed Frodo look at Dad wide-eyed. Guess King Aragorn didn't share that with his traveling partner.
"And heir to the throne of Gondor!" Legolas finished.
"Havo dad, Legolas." My father said.
"Gondor has no king... Gondor needs no King." Boromir spat. He sat back down.
"And you might not want to diss me either, because I'm his daughter!" I put out.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry, Lady Islendia." He sneered. We glared at each other for a moment.
"Aragorn is right. We cannot use it." Gandalf said. "We have only one choice. The ring must be destroyed." Grandfather Elrond announced.
"Then what are we waiting for?" A ginger Dwarve muttered.
"Arghh!" He brought his axe down on the Ring. He flew back, his axe shattered. I saw Frodo quake next to Gandalf.
My grandfather proceeded to tell Gimli, as I found out, how it could only be destroyed in Mordor. " One of you must take the ring into Mordor, to destroy it."
"One does not simply walk into Mordor," Boromir began." There is evil there, that doesn't sleep. The Great Eye... Is ever watchful. It's a barren wasteland, riddled with ash and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with 10,000 men could you do this. It is folly."
" Have you heard nothing? The Ring must be destroyed!" Legolas announced.
Everyone started arguing, including myself, until I noticed Frodo trying to speak. Poor lad.
"HEYYY!!!!" I screamed. Everyone looked at me, shocked. "Frodo has something to say." I said.
"I will take the Ring to Mordor, though I don't know the way."
"I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, as long as it is yours to bear." Gandalf said kindly.
"If by life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword." My father said.
"And you have my bow." Legolas said.
"And my axe." Gimli grunted.
Boromir also agreed to go.
"I will accompany you on this quest, even to death." I spoke as I strode forward.
Boromir glared but said nothing.
"Oi!" Three hobbits ran out of there hiding places and to us. Sam, Merry, and Pippin I think.
"Mister Frodo isn't going anywhere without me!" Sam exclaimed.
"Besides, you need people of intelligence of this journey... Quest..... Thing!" Pippin said smugly.
"Well that rules 'you' out Pip." Merry countered.
Grandfather Elrond smiled. "Ten companions...So be it, you shall be the Fellowship of the Ring."
